Subject: Westin Nerf Bars (support bracket)
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello,

I just installed chrome Westin nerf bars on my
2001 regular cab 4x4. They look great but I had
a question. On the passenger side, I installed
the hanging bracket that supports the middle
of the bar (right behind the plastic step), but
on the driver side, I left it off. I think after
comparing the two, I like the looks of them better
without the hanging bracket. Anyone else installed
these without the bracket? I don't want to leave
it off if it provides much of the support when
weight is placed on the bar. What have others
done? Thanks.

I have the Black Westin Nerf Bars on a Quad Cab. I don't have a bracket in the center and haven't had any problems

Me too. No center support for my quad cab bars either. How does it feel on the drivers side? Any give to it without the brace?

Blizzard, the bracket looks like the stiffener
brace that comes with the quad cab bars, only
it is installed in the center. A quick check
last night and I didn't notice any difference
but I am not a heavy person. I was just wondering
how it would be with a 200+ lb. person standing
on it without the brace. I guess I'll find a
heavier person and do a quick experiment.

Thanks.

Gotcha. Yeah, I guess I'd do the 200+ lb stress test and see how they look. I don't see how the stiffener brace does much. They don't even include it for the 2wd models. Let us know how it comes out. I'm curious what benefit the stiffener brace really provides.

Seeee ya

Do all of the bracket attach to the body or frame or both? Just curious.

The main brackets attach to the cab mounts and the stiffener brace attaches to the main bracket and the truck's frame.
