Subject: NonDak (ford related)

Message:
Guys, I need your opinions. Im going to buy a 02 Mustang GT. Dont get crazy on me, Im still keeping the Dak. Heres the question. A dealer has an 02 with 3000 miles on it.....He says that the guy that bought it 3 months ago decided to trade it in for a Thunderbird. This car is exactley what Im looking for..color, convert., upgraded system...I couldnt have ordered it better....Now...for 30,000 do I go with a brand new one or for 25,000 do I take this one?

Side note here is that if I go new, i can get 0.9 financing, where if I buy the "used" one I get the usual used car loan rates...what do you guys think? Is it worth saving the 5 grand...but then wonder what happened to the stang or if the guy did the proper break in

It really depends on how much of a down payment you have on the car. If you are going to loan out the entire thing, the used one will cost 584 for 48 months @ 5.9% (or more if the rate is more, while the new one will be 636 at 0.9%. The difference is really only about 2,400 when you factor in the interest rate (50x48). Will you still be able to get the rate when it comes in?

Definetely go with the new if you can swing it. Nothing beats the feeling of a brand new car. I drove an 02 Mustang convertable last month and it's a great machine.

Yeah Im kinda leaning new..If i follow Yos math (thanks yo) The difference in interest is alot when u figure Im only saving 5000 then the extra intrest being 2500 im only saving 2500....

Any more opinions?

Well think about it... If you buy the new one it will have decreased in value by 5000 dollars after 3000 miles. If you buy the used one it will be worth roughly the same in 3000 miles. If you plan on selling the car anytime in the firs few years, I would definately get the used one. OH! WAIT! I wouldnt get it at all.... I HATE MUSTANGS but you should get the used one.

i usually dont recommend buying new but for the extra money that u would have to shell out compared to what u will pay for the used veh, and the fact u have no idea how the used car was broke in i would go new in this instance. just my humble opinion.

I would go with the used one even if you can get the new one at 0.9%. $2400 is $2400 in new mods:) When you go to trade it in the value of the 2 cars will be the same.

I think you should pass on the stang, buy a Festiva, hack the top off, and you will still have $30k for mods left over.

LMAO!

I agree with CW. When you decide to sell/trade it down the road they'll be worth the same.

Bluethunder,

And what planet are you doing this test on? You did say you bought a GT, right? Have someone race your truck against the new stang, and the stang wins easily. You'd have to have a VERY heavily modified Dak to comete with that stock Stang. I know, I race them all the time. A stock Dak isn't in the same class, or even close.

well, keep in mind that I bought an automatic GT.

All Im saying is from a dead stop, it feels basically the same to me when I mash the pedal. Now Im sure the GT is faster...just saying what I felt.

Coming from a guy who has both, I am obviously the less biased opinion around

Bluethunder,

Yeah, the auto in the GT is a real travesty. That thing sucks more power than you will ever know. It will still handle our Daks with ease, though. The GT with the auto will still get to 60MPH in 6.5ish seconds, with traction control. That's at least 1.5 seconds better than our stock or even lightly modded Daks.

well I was comparing Torque #s and the Dak has more...335 to 302. Maybe thats why it "feels" better. The Dak just feels like it has better throttle response....go figure..maybe Im just losing it. I gotta have my buddy line my Dak up with the Satng and have a go at it
:)

The stock Dak has only 295 TQ in the 4.7, not 335. The Mustang does have the 302 TQ. HP wise it's 260 in the Mustang vs. 230 in the Dak.

Sorry, I can't see why anyone would pay that much for a ford. Yea, the trucks and some of their cars may be worth buying, but i can't see paying almost 30,000 bucks for ANY car/truck, unless you got a good deal on a viper or NSX or something.

Sorry, I just like being frudel with my money.

Sure is nice looking though... i agree, i love those wheels.
