Subject: Clutch repair????? IP: Logged
Message: I would like to know if anybody knows how hard it is to change out the throwout bearing on a 98 with a 4 cyl and a five speed. Mine went out today and I'm looking at pulling it apart and wanted to know if there were any special tips to save me time or is it pretty straight forward. I've changed out motors and clutches on older trucks but never a newer one. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, or any websites with free repair manuals. Thanks.

Message: What is your truck doing. I have a 2001 dakota 2.5L 5 speed and when u go through the gears fast its easy to gring 3rd. Also when you go to pass, downshifting from 5th to 3rd it makes a grindin sound then goes in.

Message: Throwout bearings are pretty obvious.
Push the clutch in, get a high pitched squeal = Throwout bearing is gone to pot.
As for fixing it? I don't have a clue! :0)

Message: All i have to say is after changing my own clutch on my 95 3.9 at 110,000miles is, you might as well do a full clutch job while youre at it.
I made a HUGE mistake by not using a stand to support the tranny while unbolted,-tore the hell out of my shoulder supporting it!-
you gotta rip it out to get the TO bearing so might as well do it all.

Message: Thanks Chris, I appreciate it, I was thinking of doing it but wasn't sure. I might as well while I'm at it even though I know that motor doesn't have enough power to tear it out.
