Subject: Surveyed a New Dakota Concept Truck

I did an automotive survey today in Houston, my motivation was the $100 they gave me. Anyway I answered a bunch of questions and they stuck me in a room with all of the run of the mill full size and compact pickups. All in silver. They were all extended cab or club cabs. They had 2 just like mine, slt CC's, but auto's. In the middle of the showroom they had a rolling chassis only Dakota concept. It looked like a mini Ram with the big blocky front end, like a scaled down version of the rams grille. It did have a sweet hood with scalloped panels, like a raised section on both sides of the hood center. Pretty cool. The quarter panels were similar to a GenIII but more raised, made it look muscular. The tailgate was sweet with ram style taillights but they were molded on the outside in circular shapes. I liked everything but the front, mainly the grille. But I surveyed it on a positive approach because I don't want them to discontinue the Dakota. I am not buying another one, but I know there are some Die Hards on here that will so I gave it high ratings. They also had some concept features for a Ram and a Durango. The Ram had a DVD player with an overhead LCD screen for the back seats and a version of it in the console that flipped out to the back seats. The console version was on a crappy bracket and looked like something a kid would break. Overhead was neat, but at $1,120 option, I said I wouldn't buy it. The durango had some power running boards that flipped out when you opened the door. It was pretty cool and it mounted between the frame rail and the body space behind that flap of welded metal under the body. It was a $700 option quote and regular ones are $300 so I said I would buy it. I bet it would take off your leg if it go caught folding in, but they can probably find a way to put in a sensor to feel for resistance and shut off the power. Not sure if it was electric or hydraulic for power actuation b/c they wouldn't let me stick my head under their for safety reasons. Fools didn't know I was jumping in shark infested water yest apparantly. Anyway it was $100 and I finished the survey in an hour b/c I had driven all of the trucks before.
Later.

I beleive that Dakota that looked like a mini ram is what they are racing now. I beleive reading about them changing the front end of the Dakota on their race trucks to a smaller ram front end due to aero dynamics, and cooling.

Can't believe this post was only replied to by one person. Too bad it wasn't about the possible continuation of the Dakota, oh wait! It was.

Was the automotive survey conducted by DCX or a third party? I have seen some of the aftermarket concepts you have described, but not the possible GenIV. Interesting.

I am not sure if I would purchase another Dak either, I have my sights set on the 300N ... yes that is *N*. RWD, 4.7, >1000lbs less than the Dak. The thing will scream!!!

Place called Survey Research Associates, but I am sure they were paid by Dodge/Chrysler. Both the two test options and they truck concept were Dodge models. $100 for an hours work, fine by me.
