 Subject: Fan Control Knob Malfunction

When I have my fan control knob on the first setting, it kicks on and off. Is this a short, or do I need a new switch? Is this a common problem with 2001 Daks?

I'm assuming that your fan cuts on and off. It must be the switch and not a short b/c it doesn't do it on the other speeds.
Sounds like a warranty item.
