When I go to remove the clutch fan, if I'm looking at the motor, will I turn the wrench counter clockwise (wench goes towards passenger side)?

I'd hate to over tighten it

I'm not CW, but you do turn the wrench to the right of the vehicle (your left) when standing at the radiator facing the windshield. The crank turns clockwise which would tighten the fan as the engine spins. Counter clockwise will remove it. Hope that helps.

Clevite 77,
By the way, I did this and picked up 2.5-3 mpg on the highway. City mileage didn't change. Also had a noticeable power increase, and engine seems smoother and quieter. Just in case you wanted to know.

wow that'd be nice, 2.5-3 mpg, not that I bought my 2002 CC 4x4 4.7L w/3.92's for gas mileage, but since I'm not a millionaire, every little bit helps.
Did you go with the 180 t-stat? I almost removed the fan last night but because my drive home from work has a lot of construction and stop and go, especially with the heat I didn't wasn't to run it hot. I do have all the HD options though (HD service group, which included the hd engine cooling, I also ordered it with the towing pkg and 5900# GVW) will the HD engine cooling be good enough, or should I get the 180?
I know it wouldn't hurt but is it a must when removing the fan?
I live in Detroit MI and in the summer (If your not familiar) it gets up in the 90's sometimes it'll touch 100.

If it was mine I would put the 180 stat in. I have the 180 stat, use Pro-Blend 40 below in the cooling system, and I put a Perma-Cool thermal sensor on the electric fan. This turns the fan on at a preset temperature. I have mine set to come on at 180. It has been around 85-90 here for the last few weeks, and I have had no problems. Sitting in traffic the temperature gauge nevers goes above halfway (210 degrees). As soon as the electric fan comes on it starts to drop pretty quick. I have all the factory options as well. The heavy-duty stuff really comes in handy sometimes, when you want to do certain upgrades. Like you, I bought my truck to run, not get great fuel mileage; however, gaining power along with mileage is always a plus.
