Subject: Who comes after Bernd? IP: Logged
Message: Hey Bernd, I'm new to this site and also own a V6. You have one nice truck, man it looks great and has some balls for a 6er. So are there any other V6's that can keep up with you or have as much power as you? I have a 94 V6 with the short bed and regular cab, anyone else have this truck?
I haven't touched the motor yet but, I plan on using money from my tax return to start. Where should I start?
Thanks,
Jim

Message: With the older body style V6's...you've already got one big advantage over mine...weight. You're about 500lbs lighter than the Gen-III Dakota's which equates to much quicker acceleration.
Where to start: modified throttle body, cold air intake, headers, and a good cat-back exhaust system...with a 180 degree T'stat and some autolite 3923 plugs. That's enough to make a very noticeable difference. There much more than that...but that is just a start.

Message: where is the increased weight coming from? I've got a 94 and it's built like a tank.

By no means am I the fastest...one of the meanest...hehehehe...yeah. ;)
(If I can't beat you, i'll drive over you instead.) ;)
15.7@88mph is the average. That's with all of my daily things in/on the truck - all 4390lbs of it.
As for the weight, the Gen-III trucks are bigger than the Gen-II (or Gen-I) trucks. Club Cabs are just about as heavy as the quad-cabs as is.

Message: Do you recommend the Autolites for a 92 5.2L as well?
Also I have been getting a lot of conflicting information about the size of the exhaust needed for optimum power. 2.5 or 3? I have been using 3" for at least 8 years and now I am second guessing because it is time to change it due to rust. Almost everywhere I go people are looking at me crazily for using 3" on my truck saying that i would get better torque out of 2.5. My instincts are telling me to tell them to kiss my ass but I also want the best for my truck.
As a side note a Mopar Performance PCM is in the very near future.

On the '92 V8, yes...the 3923's will work. As for the Exhaust size, on a single tube, the 3" works very well. On a dual exhaust, 2.25 - 2.5" max. From talking with the exhaust people (Flowmaster, Gibson, Borla, and Dynomax)...all of them stated that a single 3" will work better than a dual exit system. Why? Exhaust pulses aren't fighting to get out on a single exit...in the dual exit mufflers, you loose a little bit of power from this. (There are exceptions though.)
"Gun control is being able to hit your target...the first time. Unlike those Gang-Banger wanna-be's who can't hit the broad side of a barn with a 12ga. at 10 feet." (Not to mention that they're holding their pistols the wrong way.)
