Why does the owners manual say to change front and rear diff fluids at 12K miles? Chevy doesn't even require a change until like 100K. and don't give me this Chevy doesn't change the fluids cuz there dumb replies either. is it really all that necessary to change it that soon? I think I'll hold off at least until the tranny flush. I think this is another scheme to get more money.

Which chevy are you talking about? My chevy vette required intervals way under 100k. Conditions that warrant the change are load, diff type and oil type. Synthetic can go longer too. SO if DM runs regular oil and GM runs a better oil that could be the difference but there is probably more too it.

My chevy camaro had signs of wear on the bearing races at just 3k miles. That was from running it hard. Imagine what it would look like in 30k miles after not taking care of it.

My opninion is that DM knows whats needed to maintain the truck and that interval was set to make the rear last.

Is there different scheduals in the manual that have different oil change intervals depending on how the truck is used?

Joel

I was just assuming with chevys, but I'm pretty sure it's not 12K with their s-10's and Silverado's,
yes there is different schedule's. I drive mainly high way. but around town I get on it now and then, especially since my exhaust mod. I also do a little bit of hauling now and then, (nothing serious though) and the other day I used it to pull out some bushes, had to put it into 4LO to.

To be safe I like to stick with the more often maintenance schedule. But I just thought 12K was a bit much.
btw...I have 3.92's

From what you describe, 30k would be about right but go with the scedual that fits you best.
