on dakotas the tube has to be sealed around the firewall hole it sticks out of,otherwise water blows back in while driving. there is a tsb and fix for this for the dakota.

ive had this problem for 2 years. they tried to reseal the tube, they flushed it out. Also have had puddles under the floor mat, and now, to fix the problem my local dodge dealer is going to have to completely remove the dash, change the evaporator (?) box and reseal everything in. to the tune of over 900 dollars. We will see what happens.

I sealed around the drain tube on my 02 4.7 on engine side of firewall.It is not easy,but it can be done. Has not leaked in 4 years.There is a cover over the tube that has to come off first.I used a putty like sealer that I could put on with my fingers.

well the results were that after all the work is completed, there is still water on my floorboard after a 45 minute drive, in phoenix arizona. 50% less appx. than before, but still there. The good news is that they gave me a 12/12 warranty on parts and labor for that. so i guess it goes back in again.
