my check engine light stayed on tonight on my 93' 4x4 dakota with 318 and auto trany. the first trouble code it flashed me was a 3 followed by a slight pause and then 9. what could this be?

according to my manual there is no code 39, did u get code 88 before the 3 then 9 and then did u get 55 to show end of codes stored. my manual covers 87 thru 96 daks all models.

I definantly got the 55. what does that mean? I recently cut my coolant temp sensor wire for the gauge but that was a week or two ago and its just now coming on. I got in the truck again about 20 minutes later and the check engine light was off. whats up with that?

My 01, 4.7, with the IAT adjuster had the MIL on after many miles. Checked the code doing the key on/off 3 times thing. It had 0111, which I think is the intake air.
So I turned off the IAT, and after a while, the MIL also stopped.
I thought you had to reset the comp., I was lazy knowing what it was turning on the MIL, but now it's off by itself!

code 55 means that codeing is completed.

there are no codes that end with a 9 so u must have misread the second part of the code. try the test again, u should get 88 which shows beginning of test, then any codes that are saved, then 55 for end of test.
