Subject: ASE Chip Installed
IP: Logged

Message:
Welp, I jsut got my computer back from ASE and installed it back into my 4.7 AWD Dak. I decided on the ASE chip because B&G wouldn't flash my computer. Here are the results:

Performance: I noticed a gain in power!

Shift Points: The shift points did indeed change to a higher RPM.

Quality of Install: They cut a hole in the outside shell of the computer in the rear and then cover it up with some kind of paste. Looks like ass if you take the computer out.

I'm still trying to find a dyno by me. I'm going to Milan dragstrip here in Michigan pretty soon. I'll post the results when I get them.

How long did it take, and did you have a spare PCM to use while yours was away or just park the truck?

Just out of curiousity, why wouldn't B&G flash it ... I had sent them an e-mail a while back and they never responded. Bad customer service or just not interested in the business?

I parked my truck for the weekend. I went out of town so it worked perfectly. I sent them my computer on Thurs. and got it back on Sat. so it was waiting for me when I got back.
B&G said that flashing my computer wasn't worth it because the 4.7's don't respond to flashing. They also claimed that headers wouldn't do anything also?

Amen. As long as the dealer doesn't take the computer off the wall of the engine. I'm not sure why they did that.

B&G and Mike Leach write their own program and upload it to your PCM. ASE actually hard codes their programming into a new chip which has to be soldered into your PCM. It's more obvious than a "true flash" but I don't think the dealer can accidentally overwrite and ASE chip.

here's a scenario for you. (god forbid it to happen)
Your truck acts up, the dealer diagnosis it to be a computer problem. You are still under warranty. Under the warranty the dealer goes to replace the computer, and sees the hole your talking about. Then what?

If they have to put a hole in the side of it, never mind.

I greatly appreciate you posting that they put a hole in it. I was really thinking of going with the ASE, but now I'll just put it off. This is the first time I've heard of them having to put a hole in the side of the computer, does anybody else with the ASE chip, have a hole in theirs?

I was suprised to see that on my computer. I'm going to call them and see why they did that. I'll post their reply. Other than that, I'm really happy with the chip.

First when ASE installed my chip they didn't leave a hole in the PCM,They wse a special epoxy to seal the unit,My dealer knows I have the chip there the ones who told me about the chip and got the info for me there DRB III computer can't see the chip when they hook up to the port.
Due to the Florida Monsoons we get I fried the stock PCM two months after I got the truck, seem the hood dosn't seal good to the fender and water will get to the PCM I have a rubber flap over the PCM now. When they replace the old one they put it in the trash.
