Message: Derrick,
Can you check to see if the 4Whl. disc that is offered on the '03s can be retrofitted on '02 Daks? Thanx.

Message: Bob W,
I had a 99 done up the same way as my 2002. The 99 had some items that are not in the 2001's or 2002's. Underhood insulation and a light, the green light around the ignition, Chrome on the bumpers, and a matching rim on the full size spare.
On the plus side, everything is now labeled underneath so you can get an idea of who the supplier is. My frame has a sold tag on it.

Message: MJ, I don't see why a 03 rw disc woundn't fit on a 02 model. I should be the same rear end just with disc. I don't know if it would be cost effective.
BOB W,
The only change I know of from 01 to 02 is the absence of a ash tray and cig lighter, also a redesigned over head console. yeah and a sport plus group with includes pwr windows and locks w/ keyless entry
for 03 I don't know yet what other stuff they will cut or add we will see.

Message: Not to be a dick or anything, but the RC 4x4 has always been available ever since there was a Dakota. The soft cover was optional all last year and standard on the R/T. That 4.7 auto is still the same transmission since the 4.7 has been out, probably just flashed for the extra overdrive gear, so really the only new thing is the 4 wheel disc brakes. I would actually question if this is really just the 4 wheel antilock, with front discs and the details were missing or screwed up. So the side ground effects will be interesting to see, the rest is just the painted bumpers like on the R/T. I wonder if the R/T still gets the 5.9, that was the big question.

Message: Derrick, I've got a brand new '02 4x2 RC Dak Sport, less than a month old. It came with the 24C package, which includes things like 16x8 wheels, power, cruise, and tilt... and I noticed on my window sticker that it also mentions keyless entry. But, I don't have the gray keyless entry keys...mine are the black keys, no transmitter buttons or key fobs. Am I missing something, or is this normal? Thanks...

Message: In Canada the 24C package is the Sport Plus. It does
come included with remote keyless entry. ( Panic alarm,
illuminated entry, two key fobs )The grey keys are not for
the remote entry but for the Sentry Key ® Engine
Immobilizer. If you look closely at the brochure there is a
little note that says this feature is "Late Availability." It
depends on when your truck was ordered. If you bought
it off the lot it could have been sitting there for a while.

Message: Hersbird,
The 4.7 tranny on the dakota was a multi-speed auto 4 gear overdrive. For the 03 is a 5 speed auto totally different than the multi-speed. For 02 the only thing that had it was the durango as an extra cost option. The engine looks like it's still the 5.9. The info we get sent to us is first run, in a couple months the code guide will have more info such as prices and more revisions.

Message: EBOLAVIRS: The end of 2000 and throughout the 2001 model year, DC seems to have randomly installed & then not installed some of these features/niceties. Some rumors are that they were having some problems with suppliers. Others say that DC was experimenting to determine which items they could remove & how much their removal from the production line would save in man hours & materials.
There has been some pretty long threads about this on the Durango Owners Club forum, as they have some extra bells & whistles...lights by cup holders, lights in center console, etc.

Message: No the 5 speed auto and 4 speed auto behind the 4.7 is, and always has been the identical transmission. It is just controlled electronically different depending on the application. You can take your 99 Grand Cherokee (the first application of the mulitspeed) and flash it so it operates exactly as the transmission in the 2002 Grand Cherokee does. The extra overdrive only helps reduce noise at a very limited crusing RPM. The extra OD does not help top speed, or mileage, it only increases the wear on the transmission for all the owners who complained about noises on the new Grand Cherokee. Maybe Dodge figures it will work as some kind of marketing gimmick to advertise a 5 speed auto rather then a 4 speed. This is not a new transmission though. I might consider the transmission different behind the 5.7 hemi but they are actually changing out internal parts and beefing it up, not just programming shifting differently.
