Subject: Another question about mirrors...
IP: Logged

Message:
I've been calling salvage yards looking to find a driver's side mirror for my '89 Dakota Sport. One of the people I talked to asked me if it's cable controlled... can anyone tell me the difference between cable controlled and manual? I'm guessing that manual means you have to roll down your window & push on the mirror to adjust it, while cable controlled means you have a knob inside your door to adjust it - am I correct??? Just want to make sure I'm ordering the right mirror. Thanks for your help!

That is correct, but keep in mind as I mentioned before, there are also 6x9 chrome "manual" mirrors as well as the small black ones you have.

I had 5x7 power mirrors (black)on mine but I replaced them with 6x9 black power. Very expensive, like $139.00 a piece from a dealer. I had visibility issues. The way I drive, the more visibility I have, the more I can watch for cops.

Totally agree. I have the power big azz 6x9 chromed mirrors on my 1990. They are great for visibility. But they are not so great for stylish looks. I have been trying to find a set of the sport 5x7 mirrors to repain and install on my truck. Powered of course. They are hard to find! But keep looking. ebay has them often. Unfortunately, not powered as much but they do have alot of manual. Good Luck.
