Message: I've got a custom cold air intake with a K&N cone filter that comes to within 6 inches of the grill. If I remove the rubber flap beside the rad to let in more air won't it also allow water to be drawn into the filter? It's a 2001 3.9 Any ideas on this?

Message: Just go to Lowes and buy you a 90 degreee angle ABS pipe and let the filter exit through the passenger side fender where the stock pipe did. You will notice more power and better gas milage. I did that to my 2001 quadcab 3.9.

Message: My last car was a 2000 eclipse. i had an AEM CAI on it that put the filter about 8 inches off the road. on top of that i cut out the factory vents and installed Grillcraft grills. you could see the filter through the vents. it was about 6 inches behind the bumper. anyways, long story short, i drove it through rain and shine. never had a problem. and that filter was in a place that was more susceptible to water intake than the dakotas'. as long as the end of the tube doesnt get submerged you should be okay.
if you are worried about spray getting in there just dont stomp the accelerator much in the torrential downpours.

Message: it looks like the oil on the open filter would prevent the water from getting in?

Message: doesn't really matter all that much. they talk about steam cleaning your O2 sensors by dumping water down your TB, so do u honestly think a wee bit of rain is gonna hurt anything?

If I honestly knew the answer I wouldn't have asked the question.
