Subject: Warranty engine being rebuilt! IP: Logged
Message: I just had my upper and lower ball joints replaced on my 99 dakota under warranty with 36K miles on it. The truck has never been off road and 80% of the miles are highway miles. My question is, do I purchase the extended warranty for the truck since I only have about a thousand miles left on warranty?
P.S. @ 24K miles I had the motor rebuilt because of a knock, and at 36K miles I had the crank shaft changed out because it wore out instead of the thrust bearing. Which was all warranty work.
So should I buy the extended power train warranty or take a chance with out it?
Thanks

Message: I wouldn't go for the chrysler corp warranty. there are a lot of 3rd party companies out there who sell as good or better warranties cheaper. Check out warranty gold. I have been doing some research and they seem to be about the best. I am planning on buying their top of the line policy in about a week.

Message: Not me. With all those problems I would definitely opt for the Chrysler Corp warranty. Fortunately I got mine before I took delivery of the truck. That enabled me to wheel-and-deal that aspect as well. I ended up with 7 year/100,000 mile warranty for an extra $1200.

Message: Hey, Mason-
What was the deal on the knock?? I gotta wonder, see, because my 2000 dak (4.7) w/14000 miles is makin a horendous noise, so i took it in today. I'm quite bummed, actually. It started out as a small ping, and I thought i'd gotten some bad gas. But its gotten worse. Real Loud, too. Did you find out was caused the knock? I'd 'preciate any NFO you have...

Message: Hi GJoyce,
The factory said that there was about a 1/8 inch of carbon on the top of the cyclinder heads, they also said do not buy bad gas??? But they also said that they had to change out the rod bearings, so that is what may of been the problem. They did not really say what is was in the end

Message: Mason-
Dealer called me back today, said he blew the carbon out, but its still continuing to get worse... Gave me my truck back this afternoon, told me to bring it back next wednesday for MAJOR SURGERY.. pull it out, look at it, but he figured it to be rod bearings. Maybe the wrist pins, but he was bettin it to be the rod bearing. Guess we'll find out next week.
SO... now i have a truck out front that i know will be rebuilt wednesday.. do I take it out and drag it, trying to blow something up?? heehee.. better not.. who knows what'll happen next.
To answer your original question: Yes, buy the extended warranty. I've had them on my fords, my hondas and now my dakota. I've always broke even, or better, and i get the opportunity to finance the warranty, as compared to big chunk when something happens. I got the 7 year deal on the dodge...
Thanks, and have a good one
