Subject: Some times I hate Dodge IP: Logged
Message: Let me start off with the story..
My truck hasen't left my house since Fri Night.
Sunday Afternoon I deside to handwash my truck.
I get all done and no sooner I finish I find a CRACK in my paint right next to the Antenna. WTF!!!!
SO this morning I go down to the local dodge dealership down the street from my work.
I bring it in and they tell me..
First they said
"A car wash did it, go to them to fix it"
THen I told them I've NEVER brought my truck to a Car wash.
Then they said..
" Someone pulled on your antenna, go to your insurence company and have them fix it."
I was like WTF!!! it hasn't left my house since Fri Night!!.. I've always handwash my truck.
Then I was like..
" Well what do we do about it?...What if it starts to rust?"
Them..
" Just get a bottle of touch up paint" { which mind you I'm not the type of person that can do that kind of thing}
I walked out of there SOOO PISSEDD....
There goning to regret that they ever turned me down on warranty work...

under the clear coat, where the paint didnt
quite stick (could see through the paint) it was
on the tailgate, hood, and rear fender, they
resprayed the truck....but I had only a couple
hundred miles on it. your paint should be
covered for like 5 years or 60,000 miles for
fading or cracking, read your manual, I could
be wrong.

Message: Tell them it was like that and you just noticed it as you were washing your truck and TELL them YES it is under warranty. FIX IT. Don't leave until you are satisfied. Ask to speak with the Owner and then tell them you will take it to the regional manager. I had a bubble on the metal piece under the bedrail. Well needless to say when I washed the truck, it flaked right off and there was rust underneath (surface and nothing major but still). I took my truck in for it's free oil change and told the service manager I wanted to show her something, I showed her the rust spot and said I would like to have this fixed since it was covered by warranty and not just done with touch up paint. I explained that I wanted the rust removed and the spot reprimed and painted. She said no problem. I just brought the truck in today. A lot of times you have to go in there with such confidence that it borders on arrogance and TELL them what YOU want done. Never ask them a Yes or No question like "Is this covered under warranty?" you give them way too many options. Simply tell them, "I read my warranty and this is covered. Now I would like it fixed. When can I bring it in."
Take your truck back and demand they fix it.

I KNOW its under warranty too. I only have 4,700 miles on my truck and I have that 12,000 no hassle warranty.
I'm going to get this fixed even if it takes a letter to the Better Business Berue.
Like I said b4...there going to regret they turned me down for warranty work.

Message: I had some minor problems with the paint on mine when I bought it. The sales guy told me to buy some touch up paint to fix it. I kindly (not really) informed him I was not accepting a $25,000 truck that I special ordered and never driven with any paint problems. The manager agreed and gave me a loner while the paint was taken care of. Be a hard a$$ or they will run all over you. Your age does not help. I am sure they think that they can take advantage if you. Do not let them! While I have been here in Italy I had to have my front bumper repainted for the common problem of rust and paint peeling. I had to e-mail pictures to the warranty authority in Germany. Once he saw the pictures of how the rust was actually coming up from under the paint they had no problem paying for it to be repainted even though the 3 year warranty was over and they told me that was all the paint warranty was too.
Good luck with yours. If you have not talked to the manager, do so. Find out where his office is and walk in and let him how dissatisfied you are.

Message: Amen DakotaMan2002! I'm 18 too and they do speak down to you quite a bit.
When negotiating, being as I was young, had money and my first vehicle purchase, they tried to screw me -- sideways. I ended up walking out and almost telling Chrysler of their lies about how warranty repairs have to be done at the dealership it was purchased at.
So instead I had them keep searching for vehicles at auctions while secretly I was ordering one from another dealership for invoice. Fukkers.. I loved the sound of the guys voice when I had my last conversation with them:
"Hey! How's it going Mike, we still haven’t found a truck yet."
"Oh, yeah, I have a truck now."
"Y*crack*ou..you do?
"Yeah, I got it at Dave Smith."
(they REALLY hate Dave Smith, hahaha)
"Oh..what kind?"
"Brand new, loaded 2002."
"Oh, good luck!"
*hang up*
Now I have them do all warranty repairs to my heart's desire, because Dave Smith said if I ever have a problem, to tell them and they'll do directly to Chrysler! *evil laugh*
PS: So, what you all are telling me, is if I ever get some bad scratches, I should take some brake fluid to it and have them fix it when the paint falls off?
Kidding, kidding.. !!

Message: You gotta walk in that place man like you own the freakin shop. I had a bad tranny dip stick that was leakin oil on my intake and valve cover so I brought it up there to get a new one. The manager told me they were on backorder and I would have to come back on monday. I called BS and said that is fine i'll come back on monday with my attorney because my truck will be on the side of the road burnt up from the oil leaking and the motor catching fire. Thats all it took for him and he walked into the parking lot and took one off a brand new unsold truck.

Message: Just an update. I picked up my Dakota this morning from the dealer. They fixed the bubble and chips in the paint under the bedrail. They even straightened out the bent corner. I was impressed. It looks nice. I see that they sublet the work out to a local body shop though. No matter. The job was done to my satisfaction and it didn't cost me anything. I even checked the rest of the truck over before leaving the lot, just in case they damaged something else. Seems all is fine.
DakotaMan2002. I hear you about the age thing. I went through the same BS when I was 21 and bought my first new car (Pontiac Formula). This one dealer didn't seem very interested in talking to me but reluctantly sat down and did the paperwork to order me a car. I put down a deposit and waited two months. Nothing. I called to ask where the he!! my car was and the manager says "oops, looks like the salesman forgot to send your order in. but hey, we can give you another car off the lot for the same price." I said he would have to do better than that. Let's see....a car custom ordered with everything I want or something off the lot that doesn't have everything I want? Hmmmm. Let's do the math. I told him to give me my deposit back and he said yeah ok it'll take a week and i'll cut a check for you. Well that same day I go to another dealer and bought a car off the lot that was actually more expensive than what I had ordered. because it was the end of the season, the guy gave me a killer deal (about 5k off). I got a more expensive car for the same money. I drove that to the first dealer to get my check and the sales manager (looking very shocked) asks me "is this yours!?" I said yeah got it the same day you told me you forgot to order my car. Thanks for my deposit back. have a nice day.
Listen man if you need to take your dad down there with you, do it. I know how they treat younger people. I think half the reason my dealer didn't give me any sh!+ is because when they ran a credit check to set up my 3 year 0% financing, they saw I could have easily paid cash outright for the truck. Ask to speak with the service manager and tell them there's a factory defect you want fixed under warranty and when can they get you in. DON'T LEAVE until you get what you want. Stay there all day if you have too and take up their time. Believe me, there comes a point where they just give you what you want just to get you the he!! out of there. I used to manage a large retail outfit and you find that the more someone continuously bi+che5, they are the ones apt to get what they want (irregardless of who's right).
P.S. Sorry for the long post but I hate to see someone get screwed over. Fair is fair.

Message: I've had some experience with dealers too. Directly and indirectly. A few years ago the tranny went bad on my mom's van. It's a pontiac and they kept ho humming about it saying their computer's weren't finding anything etc etc so finally they talked to the owner and PRESTO! New tranny. I do think however that the owner knows what's going on, he just doesn't ask questions.
I also had problems with our local 5-Star dealer. My 92 went in for a recall on a valve or something in the tranny. It had been driving fine before and for like 36 hours after it drove awesome. But then it wouldn't shift out of 2nd on acceleration, sometimes going to the redline under easy(and I'm talking easy) acceleration. Never got the dealer to admit it was their work that did it. They even tried to charge me to look at the truck afterwards when I had them inspect it for the problem. Ba$+ards, I was ticked, and yes I was like 17 at the time. Age can be everything.
And this is non-dealer but it's funny. I have a friend who was trying to get a dakota, he went to get the loan approved through our local bank. He was living about 50 miles a way and they told him. "I'm sorry, that's out of our lending area." He called one of his best friends dad who just happened to be the prez of the back. 5 min. later, the loan was approved. It also helps to know people.

Durango.....they kissed my ass and call my house every month to make sure I have no new problems with the truck....I also threatened them I would picket outside the dealership...that did nothing but once I emailed that old German guy...things got done in a hurry.

Message: Definitely do your homework first. Also bring copies of your warranty info and maybe highlight any text that supports your position. Also keep the phone # for the Chrysler Customer Service Center handy (this should also be somewhere in your paperwork when you bought the truck-check in the owner's manual case too, they stick all sorts of info with addresses and phone #s in there) in case they start feeding you a bunch of sh!+. Ask them to borrow their phone and call the Chrysler Customer Service Department right there at the dealership and then have the dealer repeat to them the reason why they are refusing to honor the warranty. I don't think DC headquaters wants any bad PR or ill will. Put the dealer on the spot. Let us all know how it goes.

Message: Funny thing is, this is cake work for a decent body man. All they have to do is fix one small spot. That's what I got done on the corner of my truck bed. Took only one day.
Worse case scenario, they repaint the hood. big deal. so they have to reclear the whole thing, so what. I can't believe the dealer is being this petty! Even with my Formula, it got chips in the paint on the hood and the dealer repainted the hood for me for free, no hassle. They could have claimed (with better grounds for argument) that these were stone chips picked up from daily driving. When they repainted the hood, I had the car back on day 3 (clearcoat smell and all).
By the way, you're not really SCREWING the dealership out of a paint job. This is something that they OWE to you. Not many honorable people out there anymore.

Message: It's off topic but I have a pretty interesting story about the dealers talking down to young people. When my ex got her inheritance money, we rode out to do some vehicle shopping. She really liked the Durango. We asked a salesman if we could give it a test drive. He looked right at us and said that he "was in the business of selling cars, not giving joy rides to college kids." Well that pretty much did it to my ex. We rode over to the Jeep place and she orderd a Grand Cherokee Larado. A few weeks later, when the Jeep came from the factory, the first thing we did was to drive over to the Dodge dealer and got the jerk-off salesman and his boss outside to show them what we had bought. I wish I could have gotten a picture of their faces when we showed them a carbon copy of the check for $36,000 that she wrote to buy the Jeep free and clear. Needless to say, the boss didn't look too happy with the salesman. It was sooo worth it.

Message: Steve-O. Excellent man! That is a great story. You shouldn't treat anyone with disrespect unless they give you a good reason to. In this day and age, we have bright young kids coming out of college and a lot of them may have high paying technical jobs and plus, if someone invested in tech stocks and cashed in before the bubble burst, then you can have a bunch of young market millionaires too. I guess a lot of people lose sight of this. Too bad salesman go out of their way to FIT the stereotype instead of trying to change buyers' perceptions of them.
DakotaMan - Did you happen to ask the dealership why they initially turned you down for warranty work when they are agreeing with you now? I would be curious to know their reasoning. What seemed to have changed their minds? Why not let them fix the other stuff if it's free under warranty? Where will you get it fixed now?
