I know you all have discussed these following questions before, but I never paid too much attention to the posts because it didn't apply to me until now. On Monday my mom picks up a '02 Durango 4.7 SXT in Patriot Blue. Now here are my questions which I will thank everyone in advance for helping me with:
- What shade of blue is Patriot Blue to be exact???
- What are the easist/most simple mods to do to a 4.7, I have a homemade K&N cylinder filter setup on my 95 2.5 using the factory airhat, etc. Have any of you guys used a K&N drop in and modified the factory airbox on a 4.7 without taking the PVC route which I don't want to do right now, or are there any factory silencers, etc in the factory intake?? My 2.5 had a silencer to reduce noise for example. It is my mom's car so I don't want to rip it apart or spend a lot of money on go fast goodies since she won't really appreciate it, however I still like to play with cars!! So any ideas on intakes, etc would be great!
- What is the SXT package to be exact?? I know it is new for '02 and all color vehicles have gray fender flares and gray lower faschias. Also they have an upgraded wheel/tire package (16 inch alloys I believe), and last but not least snazzy SXT decals!!!!!:-)

Patriot blue = navy, a really dark blue
A drop in K&N will keep the low end power
SXT is the base model, no fog lights, not very many extras. I hear the the 2003 Durango SXT will have the 3.7L V6 instead of the 4.7L V8 as the standard engine, the 4.7L and 5.7L will be optional.

so I guess that is good for me (or my mom at least), I'd rather have an v8 over a v6 any day I guess!! you're right about the extras, I believe she has the upgraded 16 inch wheel and tire package, air, cd player, luggage rack, no fogs, no leather, but it should be a nice car anyway. any other thoughts to go along with a drop in K&N, any positive mods to do to the factory setup. Like removing the rubber flap on that side, any plastic restrictive pieces that Dodge always has in their intakes to reduce noice, etc???

How about an AirAid sytem instead of a drop in K&N??? That guy on here is selling them for $100 supposedly. Is that better than the drop in??? I know it looks better in the engine bay than just a drop in. Which is more HP, the AirAid is a lot more $ than just the drop in however. HELP

an airaid system will give you a little more horsepower, but you will lose bottom end torque. Next to the radiator there is a rubber flap, if you pull that off it will act kind of like a ram air system. good luck with it.

that comes from reading all the other post about the airaid intake. Airaid does not get very good reviews with the dakota crowd. I still have a cold air intake on my dakota, but a homebrew one with PVC.

We bought a '02 SXT this past winter.
I don't know the color name, it's not patriot blue. It's a light blue. We got the fog-lamps, luggage rack, running boards, towing package, and the 16" wheels. It's been good to us so far.
With it being my Wife's ride, I can't touch it too much, besides I'd rather dump the extra bucks in my '00 Dakota.
I've dropped in a K&N, tinted the front 2 windows, custom vinyl on the back window. It looks sharp...It looks better than some of the SLT's I see out there. The running boards and flares give it almost a lowered effect. We didn't get the 3rd seat, PLUSH interior, or rear air....DARN... BASE MODEL suits me fine.
Enjoy it my man.
