Subject: No low end power !!! IP: Logged
Message: i have a '93 3.9, and it feels like i have lost a lot of power. also, sometimes at startup, the engine MOANS ! it feels like it is struggling big time. if i keep the rpms up, it goes away though. but it is all at low rpms. it doesn't feel like it's comfortable until its between 3000 and 4000 rpm, then it's time to shift. has anyone had this problem? there's about 155,000 miles on it, and i don't drive it very forgivingly sometimes.
i figure i'll do a tune up, but is there anything else i can do?
if the tune up doesn't help, i might try to rebuild it. does anyone make an overhaul or rebuild kit?
any info would be GREATLY appreciated

My girlfriends 94 Sonoma V-6 (142,000) has the same problems. No power until high rpms. I have taken it to a shop and did all the tune ups and it ran the same. I think they put some kind of a device in new cars to make them run like crap once the hit a certain mileage.

Message: You guys sure it's not just because it's got 155,000 miles on it? Cam is probally pretty worn by then, as are the timing chain gears and distributor drive gears, not to mention the rings on the pistons and valve seals. Sure, engines can go 200,000 miles; but don't expect them to run like they did when they had 50,000, or even 100,000. Exspecially if someone has ragged on the engine for a considerable portion of those miles.
