Subject: 4.7 News What does it mean?
IP: Logged

Message:
I got my Mopar Magazine today, it is published
by Daimler Chrysler. From the Tech Q & A
Section.

Question:
I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota with
a 4.7 V-8, and I'm interested in getting a lot
more power from my motor. What would you
suggest. Is anything short of a supercharger
worth installing?

Answer:
Modern technology has come a
long way when it comes to production
engines, and we've found many of the
traditional performance parts offer little gain
on the latest factory technology. In other
words, todays engines are making a ton of
power right out of the box. Most bolt-on
performance upgrades don't make that much
more power unless, of course emissions are
not an issue. That being said, it's time for us
to take a different approach to horsepower
gains, and we're going full throttle on that end.
Stay tuned!!!!

It means Daimler-Chrysler isn't going to support aftermarket companies, or accept any liabilities that may be incurred by someone modifying their engine.

F*&*ing corporations...Us little people have to fend for ourselves.

What it means is your stuck with 235hp unless you supercharge.

It also means that the 4.7 is tuned to the max. Thats why the 4.7 ho needed new engine components not just a computer upgrade.

It also points out that bolt on products dont do much for you.

I think it means that the factory is hindered in the HP making department by the requirements to meet emission standards. The part about traditional performance parts making little gain is because they probably can't tell you to change any of the emission related parts. Since the stock 4.7 CAT is the main culprit in the lack of response to changes, they can't see past that. Change the CAT and all of a sudden the bolt-ons make improvements..... they just can't word it that way.

I think the stay tuned part means that they recommend you saving all your money and buying a new SRT10 when they come out.

Or maybe there will be a 5.7 Hemi crate motor

I would have to agree with Duner. I have had pretty good success with mine and the only thing that wouldn't meet emissions as far as a sniffer test goes is the third cat removal.
