Subject: Tailgate Handle Swap IP: Logged
Message: Guys has anyone tried to swap the tailgate handle with a replacement door handle thats keyed the same. I got to looking at the door and tailgate handles and they look to be the same size. I realize that the door handle is not offset compared to the tailgate handle but it seems that it would work. I might give it a try this weekend. Just curious if anyone has done this.

Message: If you are looking to lock your tailgate, you could also do what I have done. I got an old power lock solenoid / plunger out of a junker in my yard, fabricated a bracket inside the gate off the handle bolts, and mounted the solenoid. I then drilled the side plate of the handle and hooked the solenoid up to the power locks in the truck. Works slick. (What you are actually doing is preventing the handle from moving) And you can't see anything on the outside.

Message: Although the handle size looks the same, the mechanisms inside are totally different.
I've heard nothing but problems with the external replacement locks like the bully lock or pop n' lock.
I'm running a group buy (and buying one for myself) for the Pace-Edwards PowerGate Power Tailgate Lock. It's a power lock that installs inside of your tailgate and links to your power door locks. If you have a factory or aftermarket alarm it will automatically lock/unlock via remote.
This is basically what Craig has MacGyvered for his truck, but it comes pre-built, doesn't require any cutting/drilling/etc. and has a warranty from a major manufacturer.
I've got a post over on the group buys page or you can see more info on my website.
