Subject: ANOTHER MUFFLER QUESTION
IP: Logged

Message:
I am currently running a flowmaster 50 series suv muffler on my quadcab with a 3.9. It seems like I have lost power. Will a 40 series delta flow or a dynomax super turbo help. I want a real deep sound at idle. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

A less restrictive exhaust will cause you to loose low end torque. I can't help ya with the sound issue

I had the same problem with my old flowmaster 50 suv on my 5.9L. Switched to Magnaflow (which is a very non restrictive muffler) and gained tons of power. The flows just suck!

I think that Magnaflow is making some of the best hi flow performance mufflers right now. Nothing sounds like the Flowmasters for that raw power sound, but there are certainly better performers (Mangaflow being one).

Just cuz its straight through doesn't mean its better. If U've seen the cutout of the inside of the Magnaflow its got the pipe going through the center w/ holes all along that pipe and the exhaust that goes through the holes goes into chambers stuffed w/ mesh material. The Flowmasters are designed using the baffles to push the exhaust out quick not just let the exhaust flow freely through open holes inside the muffler. The reason might be on the 50 series there are 3 chambers...say you went w/ a 40 series w/ only 2 and you might notice an increase.

I'm no muffler expert but thats just my $0.02

Well I'm a self proclaimed muffler expert and still say they suck!

LOL

As you can see people are a little biased, Mike owns a flow and I own a Magnaflow. It will be a never ending debate. Luckly they are easy to change if you don't like them. So keep trying.

How is the sound of the magnaflow compared to the flowmaster 50 series suv muffler. Found a magnaflow on a web site for $89.00. www.promuffler.com/magnaflow.htm

Magnaflow doesn't produce a whoosing sound at WOT or high rpms, it is much quiter at level speeds, exhaust notes are loud and clear when you floor it. Peformance and MPG both improved with the Magnaflow compared to the Flowmaster.

It is just as loud as the 50 series but it produces a different sound. I feel like the Flowmasters are just overpriced noise makers, but there are a lot of people that like them. However, I'm probably one of the only guys that has actually had both on one truck.

(sorry if this gets posted twice)
