Subject: Rear Sliding Window IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota and just shattered the rear window(stupid mistake on my part)and I'm looking to upgrade.I've seen an electric slider by C.R. Laurence and a removable type called the Breezer.I'm not familar with either brand and I'm open to any suggestions.I'm also wondering if I'd be better off with just a factory Dodge replacement. Thanks for any help

Message: Electric would be Cool, but how important is it to spend another 150-200.00 more than a stock replacement?? and how often do you use the slider, I have them on my trucks not by choice, and i never open them... I really dont like them, but is just personnal preference.

Message: The rear sliding window is not good! Last year my truck was cleaned out by someone who knew that to get into a Dak all you have to do is hit the window in a little with your hand and slide it right around the latch, reach in and unlock the door! This cost me over a thousand in stero, amp, ect. I have an alarm now but that is still easy access. What really pissed me off was he was caught and the police recovered my stuff but I had no "positive proof of ownership" because I had no serial numbers or receipts. I hate learning lessons the hard way!

My 01 QC, with the alarm, etc, etc, has a rear slider.
1. You cant open it that bumping it in way.
2. It allows easy access: such as a cooler in the bed with food/drinks, from the passenger in the rear seat of the cab. A pass thru if/when I get a bed enclosure(camper shell with tailgate lock.)
If I had all that after market truck that goes boom stuff, I'd have sure bet I'd have invested in an alarm.
You may not want one, but I'd think again about not getting one.

Message: I have a slider and a couple of times I've tried to break in through the window when I lock my keys in the truck and couldn't do it by hand. I figure if you've a good suction cup might do the trick. If you really had to you could probably just break it or pop it out into the cab. I've got a CC so it takes a taller skinnier guy with long arms to reach the locks from the inside. I personally like the slider. If you've got a QC or CC and electric would be cool. If you've got an RC stick with replacement. And if nothing else sliders do increase resale value.

Message: I locked my keys inside once - and luckily left the slider open...
But like 92D mentioned - you have to be built a certain way to reach the knobs. I was able to hook one of my bungy cords over the lock to get it open.
And of course I had to be quick about it to avoid attracting a crowd.
The slider is great to increase air flow when driving. Pulls air in thru the vents and also deflects it when driving with side windows open.
My Mom always said, "If a thief wants something bad enough... He's probably going to find a way to get it..."

Message: I have a 200 QC with a slider. If it ever needs replaced, it will be replaced with a solid glass window with electric defrost. I VERY seldom open the window, can't reach it by myself while in the drivers seat like I could with my previous regular cab, and I hate trying to scrape frost off of these three part windows.

Message: Dave,
Where do you live? and how do you park? on a hill, facing up/down etc. I've had my truck for 2.5 years now and have NEVER had the back windows frost over. I live on a hill and parked both uphill and down hill and never had a problem. The windshield is a different story but never the back window. And if you have to scrape the frost off why do all three, why not just the middle one?

Message: The sliding rear window is great. When we are driving and doing bongs it clears the cab really fast without having a side window open to blow the cherry out of the bowl. You can light up easiers too.

I like the rear sliding window. It is a pain to open because I have a CC but on those hot summer days it sure beats running the A/C and wasting gas.

Message: I have a slider in my CC... Must have long arms.
I really don't have any pain when reaching back to open it.
I suppose the reach will be a few inches farther in the QC but well worth the alternate air port.
Like the good old days when most cars had the WING vents on the front doors.
Do any vehicles still come with those?

Message: The CRL sliders are very good units just as good as the O.E.M but if you want to replace it with a factory unit either slider or solid any auto glass shop can get you the factory part.I manage a auto glass warehouse so I am familiar with these parts. If you want let me know I can get you part #s to give your shop.

One on eBay for $250:
compare.ebay.com/like/370620585347?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y
Aonther example...this guy has the solar (dark) glass listed at $226:

I'm sure your local glass shop (windshield repair) can get one as well.
If you want one cheaper, try AllofCraigslist or your local salvage yard.
