Subject: 19 MPG IP: Logged
Message: I just filled my truck up and calculated my mpg. It came out to 19 mpg!! I did mostly city driving and some back road driving. I have a AWD 4.7 dak with a Ravin exhaust, air intake system, and the tornado. Mind you, I was driving with a light foot, which was very hard to do:)

Message: Take the tornado off, drive the same, and see if there is any difference at all. Everyone claims those things do absolutely nothing for your engine. Some kind of a verdict would be nice.

Message: I'm going to give it a couple more trials with the tornado to make sure it wasn't just a wierd happing, but I'll try that if the mpg keeps up. I had the tornado in since Dec., but I also have a remote car start, so I was always warming my truck, thus the mpg was about 15.

Message: I got 19 MPG too last week for the first time. That's the highest I've ever gotten.
I have a 97 RC V6 auto.
I was excited.

Message: must be nice. i'm used to getting an average of around 15, though it is usually lower because of my need for speed. i drive a r/t though, not near as good on gas as the 4.7, plus i'm modded alittle bit.

Message: 19MPG is the tops I've gotten so far. Still shooting for that 20 mark. Usually I get 17 on average with combined city/hwy driving with 2/3 of it being city driving. I wish I could drive it all highway and see how much the tonneau cover really helps in the milage dept.

Message: I'll post my next mpg when I fill up again. Hopefully it will be the same again!! I also want to try a dyno with and without the tornado to see if it adds horsepower. I'll keep you posted!!

Message: How many of you have bed/tonneau covers? Or even a rear cab spoiler? You would not believe how much your fuel economy is affected by the air slamming into the tailgate of an open bed in a pickup. I did a city driving test with and without the bed cover, and the difference was very noticable. I got 15.72 MPG/city with relatively agressive driving, and with the cover got 16.84 MPG/city. That's a little more than 10% improvement for an easy add on part. There is a difference. Intake and exhaust add 10-15% on top of that under the same driving conditions. It's amazing what you can really get out of a gas engine with a little thought into the mods. Performance can go up easily in all catagories.

Message: I recently got exactly 20 MPG highway on a trip from MA to DE going about 70 MPH the entire way.
I have a '01 reg cab, 4X2 with a 4.7L, 5 speed and 3.92 LS. I also have a soft tonneau cover.
I'm pleased with the mileage and hope to get a little better once I have more miles on it. (3,000 right now)
I also use Mobil 1 oil, if that means anything.

Message: Handi2, you have a very heavy Dak in comparison to mine. I have very few options, just the essentials. Not sure that your aftermarket parts are ideal to gas mileage either.
