Subject: Where's my truck??? IP: Logged
Message: I'm having the worst luck with my truck i ordered it at the begining of april April 2 to be exact. They called and told me the truck was shipped aproximately May 1st ( the call was May 6 i think). I called two weeks later and they said it was still being delelivered i called a week later and they tell me its stuck at the border ( i live in Canada aprox. 4 hours from Detroit). The following day i get a call from them and they tell me my truck is missing, Chrysler says the freight company has it and the freight company says chrysler has it. They are still looking for my truck apparently. You guys have any idea what may have happened to it or how i can findout what is really going on? I would really appreciat it and i would like to believe that Chrysler wouldnt be able to lose a 30k ( Canadain $) truck.

Message: At this point I'd be asking for the shipping number from the dealer, and getting ahold of the regional Dodge Representative. More than likely, they'll be able to shed some light on the situation. But, I should warn you, it's not unheard of for rail companies to 'misplace' items... vehicals have been 'lost' before, but found later when some numbnut realizes they weren't supposed to uncouple car A at location D, it was supposed to go to location X. :0)
Sorry to hear they lost -your- truck though! I mean, the odds are horrible against that... I know I'd be POed if they had lost mine.

Message: Be cautious about cancelling your ordered truck. The deadline has come & gone for ordering a 2002 Dakota. Not only that but they are no longer making club cab Dakota's. It's either Quad Cab or Standard Cab for 2003.
If you didn't order a club cab so be it .... you could always order a 2003 if they wind up losing your truck.
Good Luck, trim

Message: I am going through the same problem. My truck shipped May 3rd and was off the rail 20 miles from here nearly 3 weeks ago. I still don't have it. Man, I am pi$$ed. One thing you might want to check into is that DC had a deal about the time we ordered our trucks is that if you don't receive it by a certain deadline you get a 2003 for the same price. I am not going that route because the dealer is a friend of mine. Also, that might have been to leave the factory at a certain time, not sure, but worth asking about!
I believe that club cabs are on their way out. Crash studies show how dangerous they are for children. This is why I am trading in my CC for a QC (well 1 reason of many, hehehe). I doubt that they will be cut out as soon as 2003 though. Maybe, but I doubt it.

Message: It happened to one of my friends before , he ordered a '98 R/T RC - one of the first ones to be in my area . It got "lost" in transit somewhere , after about 3 or 4 weeks it finally showed up , the rail company accidently dropped it off the ramps when the yard worker was backing it out of the train car from the 2nd level , it smashed the whole right side and caved in part of the roof. When the dealer called him and told him what happened we went down to the yard to make sure they were not feeding us a line and sold the truck to someone else and saw it and it was pretty bad. The dealer bought the wreck to part out and the rail company had to pay for another identical truck for my friend.

Message: The CC is like a glorified RC. If it's speed you want, then the RC, with it's lighter weight.
Sure, the QC is heavier, one more reason why it rides like a nice full size truck form the factory. My QC is no slow dog either, I get kills all the time, ;<)

Message: CC is a -lot- better than a RC if your going to be spending any time in the truck, or going a long distance with luggage. More room to store stuff. I personally don't like the QC, I don't like how it shortens the bed and I think it looks a little odd to have a 4-door truck. BUt hey, thats me.

2 week delay due to Christmas vacation.
Another delay waiting for a 5-speed transmission.
I think the railroad went on strike, also.
Twelve weeks after ordering it was delivered (Feb 2, 2001).

Message: You guys are scaring me. My 4x2 SLT+ CC 4.7/auto (w/ LSD) is supposed to be being built as I type this. The "estimated" ship date is 6/03 (this coming Monday).
I've got a guy that wants to buy my 97 T/A (better than trading it in!) but I'm having to put him off because I'm not sure when my truck will arrive. Now I read all these horror stories and I'm scared to death I'm gonna be without a vehicle for the 1/2 the summer (or more) if I sell my T/A!!!
Please tell me these horror stories are the exception not the rule!!!!!

Message: JonnyO. I would say that it is the exception not the rule. It all depends on where you live and how far the truck needs to be shipped. They are loaded on to rail cars down the road from me at the Norfolk Southern rail yard. There is a huge D/C storage lot next to Sterling stamping. I see car haulers leaving there with all kinds of D/C products. It seems like more haulers leave at night than during the day. Before I get too far off track it took us 23 days to get our trucks in Oct of 2001. Dealer is 2 miles from factory.

Message: Mine shipped from the factory on May 3rd, it's now the 30th and I still don't have it. I am in PA.
I looked up the car carrier's phone number on the internet yesterday. I called and bugged a guy to give me the local office's phone number (20 miles from me). I then called there and gave some guy the vin. He looks in the computer and says "yeah, it's here somehwere." I say, well I want it. He says ok, I'll mark it hot to get sent out tonight, the dealer will have it tomorrow morning. Seems to good to be true, but we'll see. I never dreamed it would take this long. This is slower than Christmas!

Message: The main reason I got the CC is because of leg room. The extra cab length allows me to stretch out a bit. And the ability to throw a couple extra people in doesn't hurt. The QC is too much cab, and too little bed for my tastes.
...and it took my truck 8 weeks from order to delivery (and I never did put so much as a single penny down as a deposit)

Message: Just wanted to throw my hat into the ring for the regular cab. Sure, there's times when I could use a little extra room up front, but I manage OK. If I have company, it's usually only one other person...all my kids are grown. To me, a pickup IS a regular cab, the stretched cabs (even the CC) just look sort of strange to me, and I think that the RC's look the best of all of them. But, like some have said, that's just me...I just felt compelled to defend the RC! :-)
