Here is an interesting read for fellow Canadians. I am not sure if Shell uses this additive in the United States or not. But everyone should read this.

here is the link...

I actually work for Shell Canada in the Fuels department. I won't go into details, but the media reports are grossly overstated. If you dump 1 or 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaner into your next tank, the problem will go away. No matter what the dealerships tell you, that's all they do. Situations like this allow dealerships to hose customers and then get the money out of a big company like Shell. It's mass hysteria, nothing more.

The additive package that was causing the problem has been replaced, and I guarantee there are ZERO sites in Canada that have gas still in the tanks from early March. Sounds like a sales pitch, I know, but I wouldn't hesitate to use Shell gas. If you look at all the past reports, Shell still has the cleanest (lowest sulphur, etc.) out of any of the majors in Canada.

Canucklehead, I'll stick with Irving Gas here in Saint John NB. I know they have the cleanest gas in Canada. They were the first Refiner in Canada to meet the governments year 2005 restrictions on clean gasoline!

It's not like you have a lot of choice there in Saint John, they should just rename the province to Irving and get it over with.

Besides, how can you afford the gas (or even a dak) on the lousy wages in the province of Irving?

BLeagues,

Oh sure, continue to prop up the Irving Family and let them make millions... :) Actually, Shell doesn't have much presence out on the east coast for that exact reason: people like Irving. But like I said, Shell still has the best gas out of the 'majors'.

My boss was on TV last night regarding the whole press release. The media is really blowing this whole thing out of proportion, as actually very few vehicles that have problems have been attributed to the Shell gas. For the most part, it's mechanics and dealerships trying to make a quick buck off of Shell by blaming every problem on 'bad gas'.

R_U_FST2, you forgot about the McCains. They own the northern half of New Brunswick and Irving owns the southern half.

Hey Canucklehead,

Who cares if the media reports are grossly overstated, and dealerships are trying to cash in. Let the media stretch it a little farther if you ask me, get the Canadian consumer a little more pissed. SCREW SHELL, and all the other major players, they screw me everytime I pull up to the pump, and of course they give it to you even harder on a Friday, or a long weekend.

Bite me

Haha, well, that was a mature response. You know what you should do? Find your own oil and refine your own gasoline. That way you can pay whatever you want for gas. Supply and demand... ever hear of it?

I think fresh fruit is too expensive. Therefore, i do not buy fresh fruit. If you don't like the price of gas, WALK!

Have a nice day.

Hmmmm, maybe SHELLSTINKS would prefer to purchase his gasoline over in Britain at the current $3+/L.

Regardless of the impression people have of price gouging, the price of gasoline is far cheaper in North America than any of the other G8 or industrialized contries (excluding oil producers).

Ha Ha, I dunno why everyone is arguing about gas companies gouging the consumer.

In Canada, its the Government and all of their goddamn taxes that is the problem with the gas price.

What is even worse than the Canadian Government is the America Government, they have their soldiers over there in Saudia Arabia and all of them other Opec (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) producing countries protecting them from Saddam Hussein and all of his cronies. Yet, what do the Opec members do? They turn the tap off when the price of Oil goes down!

Is that not screwed up or what? The American Government protecting them, yet they are giving it to the Americans and the rest of us up the YING YANG!

OPEC wants a stable price, they don't like fluctuations ... or at least downward ones. If the price of crude drops too much the Billionaire sheiks can't afford their 20 wives and palaces, etc.

It's not like the people of those countries have much say in what happens in the market or who gets the money, a majority of them are just peasants comparatively speaking. The US supports them because it needs their support when it wants to open up its big can of whoop-ass on dirt bags like Saddam. Without their support those countries would do even worse brainwashing against the US and non-muslims.

Can you imagine the level of "state-sponsored" terrorism in that region towards the US then? I wouldn't count on any change of policy anytime soon.

Good points guys. Taxes DO make up more than 50% of our fuel prices. Interesting thoughts on OPEC as well. Funny how a little post about the quality of fuel spills into a discussion about US Foreign Policy! :)

Heh, wanna talk about bad gas? My dad stopped at a place that had re-pumped gas in thier tanks (they pumped gas out of an old station's tanks and put it in thiers), when he noticed that the dials were going really slowly he took the nozzle out and noticed what looked like mud coming out of the hose.

...they bought him a new gas tank :)

Ouch. But in all honesty, if you can about your vehicle, stay away from the little mom and pop gas stations. Sure they buy their gas from one of the majors, but it doesn't have any additive packages in it. Without detergents and other additives, gasoline can leave varnish-like deposits in your fuel system. Now, I'm not saying you HAVE to go to Shell ;), just make sure it's one of the big ones with adaquate quality control.

Also, NEVER fill up at ANY station when a fuel delivery is being made. If you've ever seen the bottom of those fuel tanks, you'll know that sediment and water settle to the bottow, and then is stirred up by the delivery of fuel. YOu don't want that stuff in your Dak!
