Hey, I understand the whole procedure of adjusting the TPS voltage except how to measure the voltage of the TPS while it is connected to the throttle body...I read to poke through the weatherproof connector, but I don't really understand this...casue obv, you can't use the multimeter without an exposed wire right?...

ya good question. After someone can help explaining how to do it could you please answer this question. Im not too handy with a multimeter and mine has lots of different settings, but which setting should it be on when testing it?

Thanks

For the setting, you will want to use the DC setting on the multimeter. It is commonly represented by a straight line rather than a sine wave. You will want to set your multimeter so it reads small voltages from 0V to 1V...sometimes there will be a mV (millivolt setting), just do some conversions in your head and figure out the setting range you will need. Ex. if you have your MM on mV setting and your MM reads 700, then that is equivalent to having a voltage of .7V. Just simple math.

Stick the positive side of the meter wire to the middle wire on the TPS sensor. Stick the probe point right inside the back of the wire harness where it touches the metal connection. That's how I did mine. You will need to move it around until you get a volt reading.

Wouldn't that cause the wire to become loose?

Well, I went ahead and just stuck the multimeter lead right into the hole where the wire goes in and WAAALLAAA...it worked (haha that was easy), but im disappointed that my TPS read .75V exactly. Damnit I was hoping that the TPS was another thing I could play with on my truck !!!

Do not use your standard probe of your test lead to back probe the wire connetor. This will expand where the wire is "crimped" and will eventually losen the wire. Either use another back probe that is designed for that use, its about as thin as a pin and slides over the standard probe (depending what type of meter you have) or connect an aligator clip the the probe and use a T pin.

yah, the leads I have with my multimeter are thin as a pin, as they are made for situations such as this. good point though.
