Subject: custom paint question help IP: Logged
Message: Hi all, I am just wondering if it is possible to have automotive grade spray paint made color matched to your vehical? Like Cherwin Williams/Maaco? I want to paint my fender flairs the same blue as my truck. But I cant find any paint that matches. After 12 years of fading, nothing works. I just need some custom mixed paint. Thanks.

Message: You mean in a spray bomb form? I know you can get the colors atuo stores that carry Dupont colors. You just tell them what year, make, and model you have and it should be able to be matched by their manual.

Message: If it's faded.. I'm not sure who can mix the colors for you. I'd go to a body shop and see what they can do.. Just get the info you don't actually have to go threw them.

Message: Thanks. I was wondering if it was possible. I know body shops maych paint so I figured so how they could match the paint. I think I will get an estimate on the job and see what happens. Thanks guys.

Message: Joe E. , As an automotive painter I can say that unless they get really lucky , there is no way to match faded worn out paint , it will always look better. The color may be close , but there is no way to make new paint have the same look as old paint. Look on the bright side , now you have a good reason to paint the whole truck!

Message: Yeah, well what I meant by old paint is this...
Its not bad looking or burnt up, I just figure that over time, paint fades to a lighter color. So I figured that the blue that was on my truck orgionally is not the same tint of blue it is now. How much should this kinda paint job be? Its just 4 fender flairs. I can do all the clean up work and priming. Thanks for the help guys.
