Message: Now that the weather has finaly gotten better, I plan on cleaning the dried mud and dirt from the winter 4x4 trips off my motor. I have a 93 4x4 Dakota w/318ci,4spd auto tranny w/OD, cc, a/c, and fuel injection. I am worried I might get something wet that doesnt like water very much, so when I hose it down, what do I have to cover so that it doesnt get wet? Do I have to worry about the battery? Can anyone recomend a good cleaning product?

Message: Unless you have an open air cleaner, just wrap the distributor in a walmart bag and the PCM on the passenger fender. Everything else has water tight connections.
For a cleaner, I would use an environmentally friendly citrus based spray on. The citrus cleaners won't mar the finish and damage paint if you over spray plus they are compatible with the oil/water separators at major car wash facilities. Use a mildly soft bristle brush and then finish with a high pressure hose.

Message: Or, for about $20, you can take it to Ziebart and have them steam clean the engine compartment. I've had that done to my F150 several times and it always comes out looking like new off the showroom floor.

Message: Today I did the same thing to mine. I went to one of those places with a high pressure hose, where you wash the car yourself. Popped the hood and wrapped some things in plastic. And used the soap they have. The guy said it would work. Then rinsed it off. Worked great.

Message: Nick, did you ever change the fluid in your manual trans? If you did, how does it work now?

Message: I havent changed it yet. It actually seams to be working alright. I just slightly adjusted how I shift now. I may end up doing it still. But not until I start a new job when I can afford it. Thanks for the info. I know I will use it someday.
