Subject: help with dog? IP: Logged
Message: I just bought 2002 Dakota Quad cab and I have a dog that I must take in my car
every day. Has anyone devised an idea how to keep their dog in the back seat
and not get into the front seat area? I have seen those fence tyoe things that
can be used, but was wondering if anyone has a better idea that has worked for
them. Thanks
Joe

Message: Leash to something solid like baby seat anchor or seatbelt? Just long enough that dog can get to the window or put a head between the seats looking forward to see what's up.
Sorry I don't know the layout inside the Quadcab but there has to be something.
Dogs are cool!

Message: I work in a pet store, there is a product that the
seat belt clips into, it goes between the seat
belt and the actual clip, it has a nylon tether,
about 8" long, with a hook on it, you attach the
hook to the dog's harness and voula, dog can
sit, stand, but not jump around....it is actually
the only "legal" way to transport a dog in a car/
truck....a similar product is made for the bed of
the truck, it attaches from one tie down hook to
another, and has a third attachment in the
middle, that hooks onto the dogs harness.
remember, never secure your dog by the
collar, always use a harness, or some type of
halter system. You can cause some serious
damage to a dogs trachea, etc. by emergency
braking.

Message: Heh...
My parent's dog always sat in the passenger's seat. It was kind of funny, she'd just sit there and look down into all the cars we stopped by at lights, or passed. Only time she'd try to get over on my side is when I turned the engine off, because she knew it was time to get out.
Hmm... maybe she didn't like my driving?

Message: My parents dog is the same way as Todd's. She's a 95lb yellow lab. She pretty docile now but she used to be crazy. Try a mesh cargo net for your dog. Sailors use them around their rails to keep people from falling off the boat via underneath the rails. You should be able to find something like that at a boating store. Or look online at the West Marine website. I used to work there. They had stuff that i'm talking about. You'd have to modify it probably.

Message: i just put the passenger seat to full foward incline (as if you were letting someone in the rear). that way loki can't hop up front because the seat back is tilted forward.
tilt it forward and then slide the entire seat unit rearward until it locks.
he just plops on the rear bench and listens to the thunderform vibrations :)

Message: RC w/ bucket seats was kind of hard on my dog because he was getting old and it was hard for him to law down comfortably. I also had to pick him up to put him in and out of the truck. I thought it was 'cause he was getting old, but it was really cancer in his stomach bothering him. I actually thought of getting a bench when I ordered the truck, because I knew buckets would be a PITA for him to sit in the buckets.
The 4Runner worked the best for taking him places actually. The carpeted back tinted area with windows all around, but I wasn't seperate from him as if I had him in a bed w/ a shell. I always did feel better about driving if he was in a kennel though, my vote is for a kennel if you have a shell on the truck.

Message: how about traning your dog to stay in the back seat????? My dog rides with me alot if I want her to stay in the back I tell her to get in the back and stay and she does.I dont want to start an arguement but if you just spend time with your dog and train them then you dont have to worry about buying things to stop them.

Message: I agree, training works wonders. However, my dog is so hyper it is not even funny. I use her to chase geese of a few loco golf courses, and she LOVES her job;. She works herselfup from the minute I get her in the CHerokee until we get to Alpine NJ. I have her tied to the cargo loop in the trunk area of my Cherokee now, but when my Dak arrives, obviously I cannot continue to do the same. She does sit and is well behaved, but trying to get her to sit in the back on the truck, when I am in the front is a complete different story. She has to be by my side no matter where I am, when I am home in the house. I will probably try one of those dog seatbelts and see if that works for her. I am hoping I can fold up the rear seats and get a rear cargo cover for the backseat floor area and tie her in and she will be fine. if no, I will have to using my Trans Am to get her to work and back, which I would rather not do. Thans for all the help you guys have given me.
