Subject: Dead cluster questions
IP: Logged

Message:
Today after work I got in my truck, started it, and started driving home when I noticed none of the gagues worked. Pulled over, turned the truck on/off 4-5 times, still nothing. Checked the cluster fuses, and theyre still good. What happens is that the oil, temp, and battery gagues go to 0 when key is in 'on' position. Start the truck, and no gagues move, and the odometer blinks and does not work. Drove home from work (30 miles) and truck runs fine, just that the cluster doesnt work. Anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks!

Ray W.

Try resetting the cpu. Take the neg battery cable off and leave it off while you turn and hold the key in the on position for aprox 30 seconds. Put the cable back on and start the truck. If the clock needs to be reset you did this properly. If this doesn't work, come back to us.

If it's a 97 or newer don't reset the PCM you can recalibrate the instrument cluster without doing that.

For a '97+, while holding the trip odometer, turn the key to the ON position. The needles will move to 3 stops. They are:

Gauge, First stop, Second stop, Third stop
Battery 9.5 (first line) 16, 18
Coolant 140 (first line) 210, 260
Tachometer 1000, 3000, 5900
Speedometer 20, 55, 120
Oil pressure 35, 55, 110
Fuel 1/8, 1/4, Full
