Does anyone have one of the Hard Folding Tonneau Covers? Or, has anyone seen one? Do they look very sturdy? Do they look good? What are they made out of? All I have seen is the picture on the dodge web site and you can't tell much by it. It seems like a good idea.

Since we have the same truck except for color, I have to reply. Check out the roll top cover by Pace Edwards. Excellent product. I have had mine for 2 years, this is the second Dakota. I was looking at a hard toneau until I saw this. Its the only one out there that is 99% waterproof as well. You won't be disapointed.

We have the Pace Edwards Roll Top on one of our trucks. It has been on the truck for about 4 years. It is not as waterproof as they claim and the latch no longer works all that good. After a good rain there is always moisture in the bed. Not only that, recently the "slats" started sitting a little crooked. These are the reasons I'm looking at either a Fiberglass or this Folding Tonneau Cover.

Thanks WEEBEDNA. That looks pretty cool. I think they are the makers of the 4 panel one offered by Mopar. They both have a stainless steel frame with an aluminum cover. I just wonder what kind of texture is on the aluminum like maybe brushed, smooth, or some wierd texture? They say that it can be painted also. Also, if something like a baseball hits a fiberglass cover it will be okay but if one hits the aluminum cover would it dent easily?

I have the MOPAR folding hard tonneau cover shown in the brochure. I paid $795 for it, installed.

It is textured, kind of a bumpy finish. I'm a little disappointed, since some of the paint appears to be rubbing off on the top of the bumps from folding the cover.

The locks are kind of strange, just like the locks on a pop machine.

It is very convenient, it lets me carry tall things in the bed, which is what I wanted. The black color looks great on my silver truck.

It also is not water-proof, it gets a little wet inside during rain or the car wash. MOPAR describes it as weather-resistant.

I wish it would come all the way off, but it is mounted to the frame with screws at the first hinge by the cab.

It is not perfect, but I do like it.

The Advance cover is a great choice. In fact, I have the cover, but I'm STILL waiting for my truck to be delivered. The Advance cover is very close to the one sold by Mopar, which I believe is made by Fold-A-Cover, and the diferences are minor - the features are the same. You can open the rear quarter, the front quarter, fold the rear three panels onto the front quarter (for 75% open bed), and the best part: you can easily remove the entire cover BY YOURSELF by simply removing a couple of screws (try THAT with a shell or a fiberglass one-piece tonneau). The installation looks like it will take awhile, but the price is very reasonable (@ Sport Truck Solutions). I got lucky - the sales dude mistakenly quoted me (in an e-mail) $470.00 + shipping - normally about $550.00 + shipping, so he pretty much was stuck honoring that price. I'll post on this again after it's been installed.

does the folding cover and the rolling cover cattle at hhighway speeds? That is what im wondering. does anyone know of a website for the folding cover that actualy shows how it is mounted and shows the rails up close? im looking to purchase it from Mopar for 675$ canadian plus 180$ installation fee. The dealer told me that if i purchase it from them and have them install it, it carries the same warranty as the truck itself.

What do you think?

I have the folding one. I like it. I have had no problems. It doesn't rattle. The paint is still like new (5 months old and has been washed about 3 million times!)Have the Dealer install it. This way you get the warranty AND most importantly it was a bitch to install. Thank god I just watched the dealer fussing with it. There is a picture of it at http://www.intense99dak.com/ in the picures of other intense blue Daks.

This unit is to my liking but I have a 5th.wheel and would really like somthing that will serve the duel purpose of closing the top when the 5th.wheel is in place or not! Is there anything out there that pops on or off depending on usage of the unit?

W.benn,
I own an Access rolltop cover and love it, however my first choise was a Peragon cover.
I went with the access because of a tool box in the bed of my truck that I was not willing to loose. Take a look, one of these may suit your needs.

I have the Peragon cover on my '02 QC. Love it. Doesn't noticably rattle (I did hear it a little with all the windows open going over the rumble strips in a construction zone the other day .. but no more so than every bone in my body rattling!). Is very convenient - just slide it up to the cab when ur hauling something big ... or hit the quick release when ur hauling something really big. Moderately weatherproof (if you got a thicker seal for the tailgate, it would probably be very near 100% waterproof). Lockable - I like that - protect the beers! I've had it on for about a year and it seems none the worse for wear. Weathered the winter nicely. Started to get kinda dull gray in the springtime with all the dust, but a little handwash brightened it right up.

Wow Linus!!!! That website says that it took two people six hours to install the Peragon!!!!! I installed mine by myself in less than two. I think the cover's great. Fold it to the front when I need to haul a fridge. Open the tailgate and throw the mulch and a few bags of concrete in under the cover when the need arises. Much more useful than that vinyl cover I had on my Ranger that needed restitched every six months and was impossible to reinstall below 60 degrees. Only complaint with the Peragon has been the flaking of the powder coat in a few small areas. And Heath at Peragon assured me last week (after calling me back 1 hour after I left a VM) that they would make it right, even if it meant sending me new panels for the cover. Seems a certain batch of powder coat material was not up to par. I say great product, great service ... but, to each his own. Maybe a sheet of plywood thrown across the bedrails would be better for the folks that made that website.
