Just wanted to check if anyone out there has the Gaylord X-2000 fiberglass tonneau. I was originally thinking of getting the Advance K-Cover Folding Tonneau, but then I realized that a fiberglass would work for what I need and I'm not real crazy about getting a black tonneau on my red truck.

Anyway, I've narrowed my choices down to the Gaylord X-2000 or the ARE LSII. From what I can see, I like the Gaylord hinge mechanism better and the quality is first rate, but the ARE is about $200 less.

So, can anyone give me some input on the Gaylord and also let me know if $944 + $110 shipping is decent for this lid? (If not, let me know if there is another mail order or NJ dealer that would be cheaper) I'm not worried about having it installed since I work with some good mechanics...

Well, thanks in advance for the help!

www.Extang.com has the really nice soft tonno in colors and red is one of them 225.00 to your door. I have two cause i have two Daks, the Extang is very nice and easy install. if you have the 6 ft bed order an extra center bow this makes it look alot better. But i have seen the Gaylord x-2000 and it is nice...

Joebock,
I'm not familiar with the Gaylord products but I would suggest you be sure you buy a tonneau with a plastic or rubber trim. The ARE LSII has it and it runs along the bottom edge of the cover itself. If you don't have it, be prepared for the tonneau paint to possibly begin peeling in a couple of years.

FYI.

Thanks, YJ...I spoke with the people at Gaylords and the X-2000 does have the trim around the bottom of the top. From what I can tell, the ARE and Gaylord are very close in all aspects, including price when you add the options to the ARE to match the X-2000. I guess it is a matter of just making a decision and spending the cash. I don't think I'll regret either one...

Kevster, thanks for the input, but I really have my mind set on a hard tonneau. I think for what I will use the truck for, a big "trunk" is the best thing for me...

Well, I finally got the Gaylord X2000 last week and installed it last Friday. The install was pretty easy, but I did have to cut the Dodge underrail liner a bit to get the clamps installed. Other than that, there were NO power tools involved and no permanent mods to the truck. It works great and looks like it was a factory option from Dodge. i.e. it has a very low profile and matches the paint (Flame Red PR4) perfectly!

I only had one issue, and that was that the paint was chipped on a portion of the edge (minor, but overtime, it will be an issue). I called the factory and spoke to a tech. He said that I could've asked for trim, but I told him that the place I ordered from never informed me that it was an option! He asked if I was near CA as he would fix it. Since I am in NJ, he said he would send me out the appropriate trim so that I could put it on. This doesn't make me real happy with the people I ordered from (SportTruck Solutions), but Gaylords has impressed me with their service and support.

So, overall, I would say if you are in the market for a fiberglass tonneau, give the Gaylords' X2000 a look and if you have any questions, give their people a call...they're more than willing to help...

Have a good one!

Steve,

Franklin Park is in Central Jersey - Somerset County. It is near Routes 1 and 27, halfway between New Brunswick and Princeton.

To be honest, I'm not that familiar with Ringwood, but I spend most of my time in Central Jersey, Linden, and occassionally LBI...
