Subject: Mods void Warranty?

do the mods like TB, new exhaust and intake void the warranty? I got an extended warranty and was curious if at least the exhaust will void it. I can change out the TB and intake. What about a chip too? Just curious...

i think it depends on how strict your dealer is, i bring my truck in for warranty work (suspension and engine) and the mechanics pop the hood and look under it and dont say anything, but i've heard of some dealers not allowing that. it also would depend on how serious the mods are.

Unfortunately if you're talking about a DC extended warranty(aka extended service contract), they can refuse you. Read the contract. "The following vehicles are not eligible for a Chyrsler Service Contract.....vehicles altered or converted from the original factory specs....". Note the use of the term "service contract" to get around the Magnusson-Moss Act which covers "warranties".

The 3/36, however is still a warranty and they can't dick you around there.

Going by the service contract verbage...even changing to aftermarket tires will "void the warranty" as well. Don't let it fool you...you CAN get the vehicle serviced by your dealer even with aftermarket modifications on the extended warranty.

My dealer was a dick. I took it in for some minor work, they saw the Flowmaster decal on rear window, they opened hood and saw the K&n decal, then they said who has been working on your truck, I said why, they said we see different muffler, air filter, i said me.. but this has nothing to do with what happened here.I didn't volunteer i was using a 180 T-stat either. The service Mngr said I know it doesnt, but you shouldnt be doing this.. Whatever. they can kiss my ass. If i want to improve performance i will do just that, since Dodge doesnt want to add more horses from the factory.

Bernd, I'm actually looking at the "letter of the law" aspect. Actually had my attorney review it for potential litigation against your buddies over there are SC Dodge. Huge loophole for them. They can fix it if they like. They don't have to legally. Thing is they sold me a truck with an aftermarket sunroof, then proceeded to sell me a DC extended warranty(which is is technically not eligible for), so I still had 'em by the balls.

Again, this all doesn't apply to the 3/36. They've gotta work with you within the Magnusson-Moss Act there.

The Magnusson-Moss Act does protect consumers... and the law is pretty much on your side. But, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

1. If the aftermarket part caused the problem, you are screwed. This is a fair and legitimate reason to not warranty a vehicle.

2. If the dealer refuses to warranty your vehicle, it will be up to YOU to take him to court. You may win, but at what cost?

With some of the mods being done to these vehicles, it is not that hard to blame the aftermarket part on the problem (right OR wrong).

My dealer's service dept has been ok with my mods (mostly bolt ons such as 70mm TB, Z-tube, FM SUV 50 Series dual cataback, RS 180 T-Stat, etc) and after 1 year, no problem working on issues that come up not related to the mods, everything covered under warranty.

If a mod I put on had problems and they worked on it, they would charge me the going rate (most likely cheaper for me to go to a local gas station)

They do like to gather around the truck when I bring it in for service though, and look at the latest mods...the parts mgr is using my mods as a testbed for what to install on his 2002 DAK
