Subject: 4.7 Spark Plug Change IP: Logged
Message: Well, I just put in the Autolites 3923 in and it was a pain. Had to remove the airhat and unclip the AC tubing to get to a couple of the plugs. Man those clips are flimsy I ended up braking one of them.
Anyways this is my question. On the number 3 and 4 plugs the coil nut is also holding down 2 clips(1 on each plug). Does anyone know what these clips are for? I don't have anything plugged in to them. They just sit there for no appearent reason.
The following are the markings on them.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Message: Just looked at mine in response to your post. They look like an electrical connector, but for what I'm not sure. My best guess would be that they are some sort of port for a diagnostic sensor. But to me, it would seem like any info that a mechanic would want to get could be obtained by plugging into the main computer port, which, by the way, I have no idea where that is located.
Or maybe Dodge engineers were on crack and the connectors serve no purpose other than to confuse owners.

Message: There are threaded holes in the heads just behind those very plugs. They're for knock sensors on the HO version of the engine.
Those "clips" are probably for the wire supports.

Message: They're not wire supports. There is a female connector that bolts onto the coil hold down bolt. There are no loose wires or anything around to plug into it.

Message: They are for the 4.7L on the Jeep. Dodge does not use them on their motor. We used to throw them away when we did spark plug changes. Again, only the jeep models use them!

Message: What socket size is needed to remove/replace the plugs in a 2003 dakota, 4.7L. Is there a special tool required. I recently looked down the very thin chamber leading to the top of the plug and wonder if a standard socket will fit over the plug.

Message: I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, and I need to change spark plugs. Is there any thing else that should be done concerning a tune up? Also I would like to put seat covers on the driver and passenger seats. How do I remove the head rests? I can get them up so high, but can't figure out how to remove them. Thanks

Message: With all this talk about changing the plugs on our beloved 4.7's (I'm on my third set, over 140,000 miles)
Is everyone still using antiseize, or grease or something so the steel plugs won't galvanize into the aluminum head?
Just checking

Message: replying to the seat headrest question, first unfasten the rear seat cover at the bottom (remove lower back adjustment wheel if you have one) then pull the seat cover up the front seat at least half way. You can see the bottoms of the headrest rods sticking down with their retainers. Remove the retainers as you lift the rods out of the seat. The rear seat cover comes off easily after the velcro-type retainers are pulled away from the grooves on the front of the seat. Hope this helps

Message: I can't for the life of me get the airhat off to reach the 2 plug locations that are directly below it. I have changed 6 of the 8 so far without problems, but I can't get the airhat off. Any suggestions or tips? the bolt I think I need to remove to do so is on the left side, but near impossible to get a tool around to loosen.
Oh, I have a 2001 Dakota SLT 4x4 with the smaller v8 in it.
Thanks!
