Message: Carlsbad has funny thing with the mph reading..
Usually it reads ok, but with 5 passes 1-2 might ready 10 off (10 mph higher, or 10 mph lower). ET seems to be consistant with what my truck runs. Give that guy with the Cheby my email address.. I am planning on going to Carlsbad the first weekend in June to give my truck a few passes to seem the increases from heads and cam.

Message: Boy, it is getting deep around here. A V-6 Dakota with "a few mods" (!!!??). I really like my Dakota but I'll take a GM LS1 engine/4L60E combo over the 5.2/auto in my 97 any day, any time, anywhere. My 01 Formula has the 310-hp rated LS1; that is one pullin' engine! I have not dyno'd mine, but 01 F-bodies dyno 300 hp at the rear wheels pretty consistantly. This means about 340-350 hp at the flywheel. Can you say "underrated?" My Formula (auto/3.23 axle) also averages 22 mpg in daily driving. My dream would be to retro-fit a LS1/4L60E into my 97 Dakota CC. 300 hp AND 20+ mpg to boot! If they dropped an aluminum block 5.3 into the Sonoma replacement (as they ARE the Envoy SUV) I would definitely have to take a look.

Message: I agree with Dan, GM has the WORST designed dash boards and body styles out there. I could careless what numbers their new truck runs, it's just plain ugly so :p
However if Dodge does drop the Dakota in favor for a bigger truck (Ram) and Chevy slides into the market they will get buyers like me. I bought a Dakota based mainly on it's SIZE, four-door configuration and available engine (V8). There are no other combinations like that out there untill you step up to a full (or IMHO "oversized") truck.

Message: The Chevy Colorado will have a inline 5 cylinder. I would not be suprised if they offered an all aluminum 5.3 liter V8 latter in it's life cycle. It will be about the same size as our current Dak. It was designed by Iszuzu(sp) for GM. They have cut on cyclinder off of the 4200 Vortec inline 6 to make an inline 5. They are also going to field a turbo charged 5 in some of the car lines.

Sure hope you are right. I hope it looks more like the great Gen 2, but with decade later technology added. And plenty of choice for the LOW end, 2WD, standard cab, like leather seats w/adj lumbar, etc. To force everyone into bigger extended cabs and 4 doors in order to get the hi-end options misses the point of the Dakota.
