Subject: 45RFE program flash

I need some tech help on this one. I have an '01 QC with the 4.7 and 45RFE combo. I am having some erratic 2-3 shifts and a ghost "bump" sensation at about 45-50 mph. Have taken it to the dealer several times and they assure me that this is normal. I ran across a thread on here about a program flash that turns the tranny from a 4 speed to a 5 speed and that this has solved these concerns. Now I stopped by 2 dealers this morning and one told me that the flash is only available on some vehicles that they would have to hook it to the diagnostic computer to find out and the other told me that Chrysler has not perfected the flash and that if I have it done that I might as well order a new controller because the flash will end up burning it out. I was curious if anyone has had this flash performed and if so what the results have been. Also if there are any techs on here that could advise me on this. Thnx in advance.

Haha your funny... Burn out the controller. Jeez, what with the next excuse be. I can't guarentee that all you problems will be solved but may be a good portion of them. The shop that told you that they need to hook up the computer to see if there are any updates avalible. I would go with that shop they at least sound like they know what they are talking about.

The DRB needs to be hooked up to see what the actual part number is on the controller. From there they can tell you if there are any updates avalible. If it hasn't been flased yet or recently there is a flash avalible.

Hey CW, I'm running a Gibson exaust, cold air intake, T.B. spacer, removal of 3rd cat, and plan on installing the H.O. cams and a computer upgrade. In your opinion would it be to my advantage to have the flash performed or leave it as is? I don't want the upgrade to hurt my performance.

What do you mean by computer upgrade? Like a Leach flash? The TCM can be flashed separately of the PCM. Just make sure if you have the flash that you make it crystal clear that they don't touch the PCM. I won't fash mine because there is a ping flash that will knock the timing down. If they are small issues then I wouldn't worry about it. Price you have to pay for performance I guess.

Yeah, I meant the ECM. I was just wondering if the flash on the trans control would alter the gearing of the tranny in a way to hinder performance or not be an issue. I mean if I can get the trans to shift like it's not fu!@ed up then I'm all for it, but if it's going to make it sluggish then I don't want it. I can live with harsh shifts, in fact the 1-2 shift is perfect, really snaps, but 3-4 has a "shudder", that's my concern.
