Message: My wife had one of those in her Durango, it worked pretty good it just doesn't have a lot of talking distance on it. She now has a Uniden 510XL.
I have a Uniden 520XL in my Dakota with a steel whip on my tool box. Its great. I have always used Unidens and have been real happy with them. As for the antenna, Steel whips are the best but if you want something shorter go with a 4ft (no shorter) Wilson Silver Load. I say no shorter because you need about 2/3's of the antenna above the roofline of the truck for best performance.

Message: I have two 4 foot firestiks with a uniden and it works great. I have them mounted on the front of the bed. There are actually places built into the bed for the wires. You can see them in this picture.

Message: Galaxy! Galaxy 44 - 8 bands with 10khz slider, echo, roger beep etc.... can be easily modded to 25+ watts. I have one, use it to drive a silver eagle 300 or 350. Don't use either anymore, but I will buy another one if needed.
If not, get a cobra 25.. good all around radio.
Firestik are good, so are wilson. I use a wilson magnet mount, and keep it under my bedcover until I need it.
I have some good websites I will post when I get off work for ya.

Message: Brian I also have a PRO510XL Uniden with a 48" steel Firestick mounted on the opposite fender to the radio attenna with a fender mount bracket. It seems to get out pretty good and it is small enough that it fits between the ashtray and the 4x4 selector without getting in the way.
Great looking truck mark !!!!

Message: nuthin works better then a wilson (don't matter what model) mounted in the middle of your roof. Try anything else, then go try a wilson mounted that way, you won't go back!!
