Are those stupid heat shields around each spark plug really necessary? All they do is trap gunk, and I'm putting in my 3923's today so I was wondering if I took them off, can I just leave them off???

A lot of people have removed their shields (including me) because they're also bad at trapping crap between the gaps. To me it's a toss-up - the wires are exposed to more heat while driving, but those heat shields would probably trap heat at times as well.
