Message: what are you talking about?? not all of us live in the country and need a truck. im in southern california and dont need a truck (thats why mine is lowered and what not). the only reason i bought it in the 1st place is because i got it on the chrystler "green sheet".
if i was married or wanted another vehicle i'd love to have a beemer, benz, audi, WRX, or whatever. im not into offroading crap. i LOVE performance in all aspecs. you get a WAY better feel for the road in a car compaired to a truck (if you didnt know that)

I guess it's just as much your parents fault for putting up with you silly little boys!
I think that's one of America's biggest problems, the lack of work ethic with the next generation. It's just assinine to live like that knowing all you care about is me-me-me.
Grow up!!

Message: LOL at all of you
here is my situation, im 18, 19 in a month, going through college, work 10-20 hours a week during school, 40-50 durring the summer, making $11.70 an hour at a hell hole factory to pay tuition bills, i get free food and such from parents i will continue to do so until im done with college or if i happen to quit and work full time, i dont have a fancy rich boy truck or car or anything, i got a 1990 dodge dakota that i have put about 3 grand into already myself, (parents siad we will buy you a car as long as its under $3500 cuz thats waht they did for my brother) so the dak was $3300, and now, i have spent thus far
ill prolly miss a bunch of stuff
$300 heater core
$600 tranny fix
$400 topper
$800 rims and tires
$300 for almsot all new exhaust
$100 to replace the passengers rocker panel and paint it, all done by me
$100 in o2 sensor and also a open air intake
$300 sun visor
$60 towing hitch
$150 front drive axle and CV boot replacements
$50 in misc paint stuff
$100 in accessory lights
$100 for grill guard
total with just that
$3360
so already ive put as much into it as my parents, so basicly we went 50/50
i know im a little weenie living off my parents but hey, they want better for me than what they had

maby the parrents CARE about their kids. if the kids are not ready to move out financially, why would the parrents kick them out?
how many years agao did you move out? do you know how much cash it takes to move out nowadays? here in so.cal, $hit is EXPENCIVE!! and the price goes up everyday!
this puts in into perspective a little better. in October, my supervisor bought a house that had just started being built for $200,000. the area is being built up VERRY FAST, and the house is almost done, and it is now worth $250,000!! that is $50,000 in equidy (sp?) in 8 months!
the average 2 bedroom apt. is going for $1,000-1,700 a month. how many 18 yearolds can afford that?

Message: Heh, I love the "you'll be a better person" shpeal about doing it on your own. Why would some of you think of yourself less of a man for getting help? My parents like me around, I am a 4.0 student at the local college, a work for a web development firm 40 hours a week, and I help around the house.
BlkDak, "me, me, me" is just human nature, you're 35, I would think you would have learned that by now. It's good that you managed to get through college, many do not who choose your path.
I do agree work ethic isn't quite as good as what it used to be -- from when I've talked with older folks. I love my job and I love what I do. I go to work when I have nothing better to do! I get paid salary, so it doesn't benefit me financially. I've just kept a Confucious quote in my head for years now "Chose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." and it's worked great for me so far!
BTW, I could never match my mom'd southwestern cookin'!

How does getting paid salary not benefit you financially?
That is confusing me..maybe you meant to say...
"I get paid a crappy salary so it doesnt benefit me financially!"
and by the way getting paid crap wages might be ok now , because you love your job and you dont need the money because you live with your mom and dad, but once you get a little older and realize all your friends have cash for this and cash for that you are going to think to yourself "Damn I work hard and enjoy what I do, why arent I getting paid more!" eventually that I love what I do crap will go away and the thing that will keep you loving what you do is a good decent salary that lets you know your job is appreciated!"
and if you truly love to design for free stay away from my customers cause I charge for my time!!!!!!!!!and I love to design

Message: Its cool man I am not talking down to you I was just the kind of person that wanted my own place....I wanted freedom and hated feeling like I was keeping my parents up when I was enjoying a late night...I just know as a parent that if my son or daughter was living at home and graduated college and couldnt get a job I would for sure let him stay as long as he needed to.
But, if my son or daughter was making good money and decided he or she wanted to buy a BMW then thats different.....That basically would be saying to me that my child has their priorities screwed up...I would want my college graduate son or daughter to maybe take that money and purchase a condo or a house and build some equity and or pay their own rent and invest some cash instead of buying a car that loses value the second you drive it off the lot...
Lastly these are all my opinions and I dont want anyone to take these thoughts the wrong way...I enjoy chatting with all of you, i just was voicing my opinion....and BTW the bmw is an awesome car and by far the smoothest ride out there....and I have driven alot of expensive autos .."I grew up in Palm Beach Florida and had numerous rich friends and alot of there parents were automoblie collectors..." So with that said congratulations and make sure you thank your parents and let them know you appreciate their generosity......
cya
Doug
