Subject: shocks for heavy loads, not off-roading
IP: Logged

Message:
Any recommendations on shocks for the occasional heavy load (that is, at or somewhat beyond Dodge's payload weight rating), but not for the purpose of raising/lowering the truck in general or off-roading?

Thank you for your time and attention.

There are a few options here:

You can try the Roadmaster Active suspension.
http://www.speedtweaks.net/roadmaster.htm
This is not rated for overload conditions, but will help with occasional heavy loads. It will also reduce axle wrap, and sway in turns. These have minimal impact on the ride of the truck when not loaded.

You can try "SuperSprings"
These state that they boost load capacity, and improve cornering without "hardening the ride"

Or you can look at some helper springs from Hellwig or Draw-tite. These will harden the ride of an unloaded vehicle, but do provide overload support.

There is some air-ride style setups for pickups that place an air bag between the spring and the frame, the pressure is adjustable so you can still have a ride when unloaded.
