Subject: Does just a K&N filter make any difference? IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 99 CC 4x4 5.2 and I was wondering before I went and bought one if just replacing the stock sized filter with a K&N brand filter makes a noticable difference with gas mileage, responsiveness, or a slight increase in power? I would like to have feedback before purchasing because if there is something that would be better I would go with it instead.

Message: You can tell a little differance, mainly when pulling something or accelerating. The engine doesn't seem to be sucking wind as bad and seems to have a little more power on the low end. Also changing the exhaust with the K&N helps some too.
The K&N Filter Charger Injection kit, which changes the entire intake will make a bigger differance. I have flowmaster dual exhaust and just a K&N filter on my 2000 Quad 4.7 4x4 and it is great. I plan to upgrade to the kit as soon as money allows.

Message: I put a drop in K&N at first.. only noticed a teeny tiny difference. Put my flowmaster on a few days later, then it was a tiny difference. When I put on my po-boy K&B set up, I noticed a diff while pulling my 13' trailer with a Wolverine on it. Seems like you need to do a complete setup to get a response, IE... filter, no airbox, TB, and exhaust, including headers, cats etc... to get any real noticeable diff.
I could be wrong, but that is what I read somewhere.. prob on the DML.. it has such a plethora of information hehe

Message: Thanks for responding to my question. I will probable just drop in the K&N replacement filter first and then once I save up some money for the exhaust and conversion kit for the air intake I will upgrade to that. What I needed to know was if it was worth while just getting the filter until then and you guys answered that for me.
Thanks

Message: I put on a GenII K&N, Jacobs pro street ignition
system, 3 1/4 exhaust, and run mobil one. I have
a 98cc 318 auto 3:55 D/ locker. I went from
15-16mpg to 19mpg. The performance was worth
every penny. The pro street was the best mod no
more ping and I use only 87 oc
