i would like to lower my new 2001 quad 2wd that im picking up tomorow, but i dont want to lower it toomuch and sacrifice an already very good suspension and ride quality (please note i live in canada... so snow is a factor).I dont want to spend more than 200$ or 300$ if possible. What i would like is a 2" or 3" drop at the back and a 1" or 2" drop at the front without disturbing the suspension and ride quality that it has at the moment. I don't intend to SLAM my dak...

Please provide me with ideas. If you have pictures of a before and after look of your dak, give me a url where i can see them for myself.

Manufactuers of drop kits and url's would be appreciated.

I've got the Hotchkis set up front and rear. It's about $1000, though. That gets you front and rear springs, Bilstein shocks all around, and front and rear sway bars. Somewhat stiffer, much much flatter through curves.

You could probably do a poor man's version without losing much with just the front components from Hotchkis and drop shackles in the rear. You'd still need to score rear shocks, and would probably have to lose the stock rear sway bar.

It cost me a little over 300.00 I think for everything. I kept the rear swarbar adn the ride is nice and corners lige its on rails no body role.

When/if I lower my Dak, I plan on using either Hotchkis or the Western Chasis kit. The WC uses new lower A arms and rear shackles. Hotchis is prob better, but more expensive. You can find the WC kit in truckin' for less than 400. You can also get the Hotchkis kit w/o the shocks for less than 500, my bud did his 97 v6 dak like that.. looked good. Never rode in it though

just my views.

Python97,

Lighten up, guy. People lower their trucks for an excellent reason: they like to corner fast. Small trucks already have some characteristics that are perfect for making a sports car; they're rear wheel drive, they have a stiff chassis and firm suspension. The main thing that keeps them from great handling is their high center of gravity. Ergo, the lowering.

"Trucks are made for goin over shit that cars cant. " That may be why you bought your truck... but some of us bought a truck because we need a cargo box to carry stuff now and then. I have absolutely no interest in "goin over shit". I drive on the roads, and I can do that much better (faster, safer, and having much more fun) with my lowered Dakota lowered 2" front, 4" rear. And I can still tote a load of furniture, or take my dogs to the beach, which I couldn't do with a traditional sports car.

Rememeber we all have different ways of enjoying our trucks.

I don't think there is any way to lower your truck for $300 unless you cut your coils and use a block in the rear. Doing that will make it ride like crap. I payed $850 including install for my 4/6 drop. the ride is kinda rough because I have a 35 series tire on a 20" rim. If you use a bigger tire the ride will be like stock, and you can take corners like never before.
Python, why would anyone want to take a 18-25k truck and run over rocks and things that cars can't, and risk damaging their trucks? Not only that, but I think dakota's look like crap lifted. They look sooo much better on the ground, and the performance also gets increased. If you want to run over things you should have bought a jeep!
Good luck kitkat

I used to have a jeep cherokee xj . It was lifted
and all the other goodies. Then I saw the 2001
QC with a performance package. I got that
because I WANTED SOME SPPED. But I think
these trucks look great if they are lifted and
done up nice. Why risk making your truck so
fast that instead of scratching it up you total in
going 100++??

Lighten up guys!

Python likes a prerunner look. That's cool.
Kota likes to lay frame. That's cool.
I like Pro Street. That's cool.
Hell, if you want to drive a bone stock truck, that's cool too (I guess). At least get the options you want and a color you like.

Imagine going to a show and every truck looked exactly the same. Boring!

well ! ! !

I just called the dealer and since last Thursday, they said " the truck will be here tomorow ."

Well it looks like it's being droped tonight 8:00PM from the freight. ( I HOPE ! )

I've been screaming at the dealer since friday and they did not seem to know or care where my truck was. (this was suppose to be a straight thru exchange from a dealer in Waterloo, Ontario)

I think this is what happens when you deal with a close friend. I was and still am frustrated after my call 1 hour ago and started to curse at my friend on the phone. He said " it's not mi fault, but ill try to get you free oil changes !" I then told him; You better get me something cause im realy realy pissed at you ! !

So end of the line, i will get it tomorow night.

I guess i learn't my lesson. NEVER DEAL WITH A FRIEND !

P.S.: I got 2 inside stickers made for my dak. One of them is the ram logo with the dodge on top and the dakota at the botom for the back window. the other is "dodge dakota" for the front window. Both stickers are to be installed from inside of the truck. Cost of 60$ Canadaian. when i get them ill put a photo on my site of the stickers on my dak.

See ya'll later!

OK ! ... I droped by the dealer this morning and my Dak was at the back of the dealership. Looked at the serial # and it matched the one on the paperwork i had. LOOKS GREAT IN BLACK ! ! !. They need to bring it in, take out the SHIPPING SCREWS and do the MASTER SHIELD Protection. (List price for this is 1100$ canadian and they droped it down to 430$ canadian. I will be fighting to get this for free tonight when i pick it up since they have been jerking me around since last Thursday about the delivery!(dealership exchange))

I'll pick it up tonight at around 5:00PM EST. I sawgh a 4x2 with a suspension lift comming just a litle higher than the 4x4 hight. I'm starting to think if I should lift the truck instead of lowering it.
Was is needed to lift the truck? is it expensive? do you need to change a sensor for the spedometer?
I would probebly put the 31" that the 4x4 come with. I need to know what i need and what would the cost difference would be comparing to lowering the truck? Is the ride comfort better when you lift the truck up? What kind of price am i looking for in Canadian dollars PLEASE?

Thanks!
