Subject: ABS light IP: Logged
Message: Hey. I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota Mark III.
The other day on a trip , the ABS light came
on. The brakes work fine, but the light still
stays on. Does anyone know what would
cause this to happen? I drove the truck
around for about 300 miles after the light
came on and nothing went wrong. The
parking brake light also came on and the
parking brake was not engaged, either. Any
help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Message: The two lights come on in tandem. It will probably be just the sensor in the rear diff.

Message: i have the same problem with my 94dak, i have been driving it for almost 2 wks with no problems other than both lights being on. from past posts i have read i prolly is rear sensor on axel that is the problem. i had my tk in dealer for service 2 wks ago and it took them 2 hrs cking for abs problem and came up with code44 which they say is sensor on front dual brakes under the hood, drivers side. i am due to get the part replaced the 21st of this month so we shall see. if it is ur rear sensor on axel it costs around $35.00 for the part and 5 minutes to replace. the dealer will charge around $150.00 to do same job.

Message: It could also be the wire harness to the speed sensor on the rear diff. I had to replace both the senser and the harness on my '96 - about $30 each.

Message: In reply to Don 94 - I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Dakota. Replacing the rear sensor did NOT solve my problem (which the dealer said was the problem, but they wanted $240 to fix). You say that it may be the sensor on front dual brakes under the hood, drivers side. Where exactly is that sensor, and what does it look like? Anyone know? I DO NOT want to give in and take it back to the dealer and get that "Tried to fix it yourself and couldn't" look!!

Message: the dealer put the abs sensor on that they thaught was bad and found that it was not the problem so they put my old part bak on and ordered abs valve, apparently there are 2 valves on the duel brake cylinders and the one closest to the drivers side, the service manager refered to them as inboard which is one closest to engine, and outboard closest to wheel well the outboard one is bad. no charge for doing this now have to wait for new part to come in.

Message: I had the same problem last year on my '96. All it ended being was a blown fuse in the fuse box. The stupid thing I did was check everything else first instead of replacing a 5 cent fuse!

Message: Don94 - Let me know if that solves your problem. ABS is such a pain, it always seems to cause problems!
Jason - Can't remember if 1996 and 2000 are same body style...if so, is that fuse located in the cab or under the hood?
