Subject: Check Engine Light Keeps Comming on- #21 IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
My '97 Dakota sport 2.5L keeps giving me the check engine light.
I pull the code and its #21 everytime- supposedly low coolant temp- gauge is in the normal range.
Any idea why this keeps going on? Thanks for any advice- I have a 180 T stat i was going to put in but the damn light keeps comming on with the stock 195 degree stat!

Message: Hmmmmm... I keep getting the same code on my truck but according to ALLDATA it is something with the O2 sensors. Mine is a 5,2 though so I dont know if that makes a difference.

Message: I was going by www.obdii.com 's website- it could very well be that code 21 is for the O2 sensors- I have lost 3 mpg latley- that could account for it I suppose.
Anyone know what this code means on a '97 Sport? Thanks all-

Message: Hi. i have the same code on my 93 dakota with the 3.9L v6 in it. i hooked it up to my scanner and it comes up as the O2 sensor opperating at more than peak voltage. i don't think the sensor is bad but you may want to check your catylitic converter. i know my cat is hollowed out which is causing the problem. if your cat is fine than i'd suggest replacing the o2 sensor. i hope this helped. good luck

Message: Thats interesting- I have a feeling obdii.com's info doesnt apply in this situation, I guess its O2 sensor time :( truck has 56K miles so I guess its due. Thanks for the help guys, I really appriciate it.
