Message: To my knowledge, there was not/is not such a thing as an "off-road package." Going off what you put in your post, I see that it is running 31x10.50's & the tow package. The salesman has likely coined this new term to encompass these packages together...a way to appeal to that "Tim Taylor" side in all of us.
Having a very similar truck, the $22,000 price tag is right in the neighborhood of the blue book value, but I'd think you could talk them down some. Here's my suggestions....having spent some time used car shopping....
Walk around the vehicle & study it. I'm serious here. You would be surprised how much you miss just walking around the vehicle. One of the games I play is "check out the reflection." This will help you spot door-dings, scratches, etc. Check alignment of all adjacent pieces (doors to cab, hood to fenders, etc.). Look it over for any rock chips or dents from front to back. Check the interior for scuffs on the kick panels & lower door panels, check the upholstery on the seats for signs of wear or cigarette burns, and the same goes for the headliner. If you aren't a smoker, check the cigarette lighter & ashtray. Write down everything you find & add high mileage to the list. Yeah, I know, it doesn't have really high mileage, but let's face it. The entire auto-orientated industry assumes 1,000 miles a month as normal usage (if you don't believe me, go ask your insurance company).
Ask the salesman for a print-out based on the VIN. This will tell you what gearing & options came on the truck stock...as well as a build date. Compare what is on the truck against the print-out & annotate the after-market add-ons. Then hit up one of the online blue books sites (like Kelly Blue Book) and get the price for the vehicle with all of its options & accessories.
Take your list to the salesman, and start negotiating. Now is the time to demand a combination of a lower price and repairs/new parts. For example, if you aren't a smoker, now is the time to demand a new ashtray & lighter on delivery.
Good luck!

Message: I think that is a little pricey, but maybe I just got a good deal... There is not many "rare Dakotas" no matter what (factory) options there are on it...
I bought my 2001 Quad cab used with 17,000 miles on it... 4.7/V8 engine, SLT, 16" rims, power windows/locks/mirrors, 3.55 gears, 4x4, basic sound (cassette only), drop-in liner, etc for $22,500. The used sticker price was ~25K, but it was the end the month, just after 9/11/01, so I think there was a glut in the market...
I love it and am very happy... If that price is comparable with other used rigs in the San Diego area and the truck is in good shape- BUY IT !!!

Message: Been out for a few years, but as the saying goes, "Once a Marine, always a Marine!"
As for the price, it may be a little high, but don't all dealers try and gouge whatever they can out of the buyer?!? That's the reason haggling is such an integral part in any car or truck (new or used) purchase.

Message: Don't pay any more than 19 grand. Dealer probably paid 15K for it. Check the paint for any chipping/flaking. Drive around and get a good feel for the transmission. Rock it back and forth and check for squeaking in the front end. When coming around a corner, slowly brake and listen for any grinding (keep the window down and radio off). Transmission, ball joints, wheel hubs, and paint seem to be major issues with these vehicles. By the way, there were no 'offroad' editions. But it does sound like a good combination of features on that vehicle.
Good luck,

Message: Too much money! Last fall I bought a new /01 CC 4x4, 4.7, 3.92 LSD, tow package, SLT+ pkg, HD service group, and more for 22500. You need to tell these guys to stop blowing smoke and get serious on their pricing-- and keep looking.
Best,

Message: Well I bought it........I dont want to get into the whole story but these guys wanted to rip me off and they didnt get anywhere close but my problem was I married a beautiful woman about 2 years ago and she has everything I wanted and 1 thing I didnt and that was she was upside down on here chevy tracker hehehehe.....I hated it because we have one child and another on the way. Plus I am moving to Florida and I do alot of hunting in the Everglades and the tracker or my old civic wasnt cutting it.....So I paid a little more cause of the trade in BUT I no longer am associated with that POS..I love the truck it is big enough to feel above all the ricers and small enough where my wife can grab a stroller out of the back and tough enough that I can get out of a bog in the middle of nowhere in the everglades...and it has the v8 of course which gets me up and out quickly.....Now I just gotta modify it a little and I will be GTG....I wanna put a lift on it and get the pumpkin a little higher than it is now , its ok but the ground clearance is a little short for what I need......I Like it alot though I used to want a full size but with the combination of kids, a wife, hunting, and city driving it does the trick.....Thanks for all your support guys and I will post a URL in a couple of days with pics!!!!would you like an html page or a flash site let me know whats easier....BTW my name is Doug and you will see me around more cause I am a dakota guy now I guess and I need help with modification questions and you guys are the best place to find good internet opinions..
Thanks Doug Sapusek

Message: Doug I recently purchased my 2000 QC Dak in excellent condition about 4 months ago. 4x4 SLT 5.9lt with the 31s, towing package, heavy duty service package, heavy duty cooling package, spray in bed liner, radio controls on the steering wheel, blah, blah, blah, with just over 40000mi on it for $17800 from a dealer. I thought it was a good deal so I took it but still wasn't quite sure if it was a great deal. If I can get one that low then i'm sure you can, unfortunately the used car market has kinda bounced back up.

Message: Doug I just remembered....you ought to test drive a new Dak similar to what your looking at and then go straight to test drive the 2000. It helped me to get a feel for how the truck should handle, run, etc. Tells you alot about how the truck has been treated by the previous owner. Just my $.02.

Message: YOu guys paid WAY TOO much for your daks!!!!
I won;t go into it here now, but any new truck, w9ith the options YOU want, ordered by you, for invoice cost only!!! (they still make money with a thing called 'holdback')
That much for a used dak is ludicrous. (sp?)
I have the asme or more options and paid less for my QC, new!
