Message: to put it simply, no. but to keep from getting slammed by the r/t guys, it really depends on if the mustang is auto or manual, the dirver of each vehicle, and if the mustang is convertable or not. I think that a stock r/t would have a shot against a stock, convertable, auto mustang gt. but if one mods the r/t...

Message: hey zendak, what was the gt? an auto or standard. also did he spin the tires? reason i am asking is because i have a gtech and i can run a 14.5 in the 1/4, the only way i can get this is by not giving it full gas until about 25 mph or i will spin the heck out of the tires. i have some comp. engineering traction bars on the way though, hopefully i'll get hooked up now and possibly get a high 13 second run. ohh by the way, i have a 99 r/t.

Message: No way, unless the dude in the GT cannot drive, a 5spd GT will smoke an R/T. Sorry 360 guys, but a new GT runs to 60 in under 6 secs. I drove one and like my 4.7L 5spd much better, but its just faster. Its a sports car, or some crap, but vs a truck its gonna win. If you know what you are doing, unfortunately most people do not, then it will beat an R/T. Anything other than a 5spd GT coupe is a piece of crap and should not even be talked about. Convertibles suck and automatics do too. I can see how getting an auto in a truck is necessary or feasible, but if you are getting a so called "Pony Car" and you get an auto, well that is just lame. Don't even get me started on V6 Mustangs. If I see another 40 yr old bald guy in a convertible I cannot be responsible for my actions. LAME
Get a damn corvette already.
That Ford guy in the commercial sucks!

Message: Its true I raced a new GT when I first bought my R/T...I beat him big time off the line but he pulled me in the end. The main thing holding back the R/T is not having the M-1 intake. If the R/T had that thing stock the GT would have no chance in hell.

Message: Just to drop some info....
I'm a another 4.7 guy in a R/T topic, but I thought I would give some insight. I'm in a local Mustang Club. Several of us drag race. Most of the "Factory Stock" Mustangs 99-02's with the 5-speeds run 14.0's-14.40's..
Now 96-98 GT's are a different story.. These are what gave the Mustangs a SLOW rep, and gave bragging rights over to GM and Dodge Caravans. I've seen 96-98 GT's with "Good Drivers" run 15.0's to 15.50's.
Now 60ft'ers would be real close with the 99-02's. I don't know what kind of 60ft'ers you R/T'ers get, but my 4.7 5-speed with the 3:92's cuts 2.0's.(sans Lakewood Bars) If you were to jump one out of the hole, you could bust his chops, or hang with him. My truck averages 14.8's at 91mph, I usually take my buddies '01 in the 1/8th mile, but he just does make it in front of me in the 1/4. His trap speed naturally being higher is usually around 96-97mph.
When a "TRUCK" can hang with a sports car, hey, so what if it comes around to take me in the 1/4. I can kick his ass at the stop-lights...hehehe

Message: notchlx pretty much summed it up. Some of he older GT's are slow and can easily be beaten by a stock R/T. The newer ones can be depending on options and driver. I've beat a '01 5-speed GT in my R/T, but I have a few mods, and the driver of the GT didn't know how to shift the 5-speed. Had the driver known how to shift it woudl have been the other way around.
