Message: this might be just bad luck for me but i bought a 2000 quad cab 4x4 4.7litre. i can accept the terrible fuel mileage it gets but it constantly has problems. they may not be big problems but they really piss me off as my truck is in the dealer at least 1 every 2 months. first whenever i tow anything the sway bar bushings go. it must be rare because i usulaay wait a week for parts.these trucks shouldn't have a problem towing 2000lbs. second there is a noise from the front left tire(squeal noise)and it is very loud. usually goes away when the cv joints are lubricated but this needs to be done every 3 months. that can't be normal.third on right turns there is a hissing squeal that will never go away.dealer identifies problem but never seem to fix it. and finally like alot of dakota owners it idles really rough and can never maintain constant rpms. always bouncing. have done almost everything to correct this but it never seems to help. these are the only problems i have had however they don't go away. i have been to 3 different dealers and none can fix them even though they can document a problem. any suggestion on what to do?

Message: Greg,
I have a 2K QC 4x4 4.7 auto. Yes, the mpg's are horrid. The problems I've had with the front are the hub assemblies (bearings that can't be replaced without the entire hub). This fixed a strange grinding noise from the front on turns. There's a new squeaky, clunking noise from the front now, pretty sure it's the ball-joints or something to that nature. The auto tranny is garbage and will have to be replaced or rebuilt pretty soon. My idle is rough, but after new plugs, oil change (synthetic), and tranny service, idle is much better. The rough idle can usually be fixed with a PCM flash as well, if you haven't had it done already.

Message: Sounds like a lemon... Your state have
LEMON LAWS? Contact the manufacturer
and they will work with the dealer to solve the
problem(s). At least that's how it's suppose
to work.
Good luck

Message: Damnit!
It's like the engineers designed these trucks one way, then the corporate bean-counters got into the act, and stipulated that they use the cheapest possible components where ever possible, just to save a couple of hundred dollars.
I delayed buying my Dak for two years (I have a '99), in the hopes that they would work out all the bugs in the GenIIIs by that time. WRONG!
What stinks is that I'm old enough to remember when Mopar made just about the most reliable product out there. Remember the old Dusters with slant sixes? You couldn't kill those things. DC needs to take a step back...
