Message: $#@(*&!!!!!!!!!!!! Some BASTARD hit my truck and
took off!! It happened at night so I couldn't see his plates or anything as he sped off. I was sitting in my living room when it happened. Sounded like a giant beer can getting crushed.
Damage doesn't look too bad (sideswipe) but the insurance company things they'll total it cuz repairs will exceed 75% of blue book price. You can see pics at http://community.webshots.com/album/37662462lHTbnH
If they total it I doubt I'll be buying another Dakota. As much as I loved my truck it was a major gas hog. I hear that's inherent with Daks.
Also, my insurance gives me a rental and they allowed me to rent a Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext.Cab. Man, what a NICE truck!!! I'm getting spoiled driving it.
Anyway, it's been great learning from you all. If I don't get another Dak I won't be back. I wish you all well with your Daks!!

Message: Hopefully they will total your truck. I think you will make out better in the long run. The Silverado is like a Cadillac compared to your year truck.

Message: I had a buddy get his '89 Ranger hit in a hit and run. Really f**ked up his rear end. Total it was about $2000 damage and he'd already rebuilt it once that year from a previous accident. So its not hard to see where your coming from.

Message: Hello Rascal? Anybody home? Did you even read his post? He said in plain text "As much as I loved my truck it was a major gas hog."
Plus it was on older Dak so i'll cut him some slack for thinking a Chevy is better. He obviously hasn't driven a new Dak.

Message: Rascal, if you read my post closely you'll see where I say "as much as I loved my truck". Apart from the gas usage it was a great vehicle. FWIW, when I bought it I couldn't care less what brand it was. I just needed a pickup. I came to appreciate the Dak and got into this board. But, if I have the opportunity to buy another truck, I'll do my homework this time. Tha's all.

Message: Buy a chevy?? holy crap man, do some research first. They are one of the worst things on the road, my buddys 2000 silverado, has had everything replaced, paint, rearend twice, front end parts, the disc brakes are crap and always a problem, abs problems, the rear window fell out one day when the door was slammed, the carped was replaced cuz the truck leaked somewhere in the fire wall, rear bumper was rotten, and it goes on, and on... By the way he is a diehard chevy man, and hates his new truck and treats it like gold.

Message: Well, I just got word that the insurance company is gonna pay to fix my Dak! I'm happy cuz I love that truck. Kinda bummed cuz I was getting into shopping for a new one. Now, I gotta try and find a FIPK for a 96 Dak or score a 97 airhat. Anyone got one to sell?

Message: Totalled ?? That's just a scratch...
Leaving a Chevy in the street is okay...
But if you really care about your Dakota there...
You better park it in a safer place, eh?

Message: Dave R: email me on that FIPK!!!
Bearhit: I know, I know. Especially after someone nailed my mailbox last month and I said "Dang, they coulda hit the truck!!". I tried to get my driveway widened but the company wouldn't do it cuz there's a big maple tree there that would die if they cut the roots to make way for the expansion. I'ma kill the damn tree myself and call them back in.
Lastly, for the "scratch" comment, the total repair cost is about $6,000. The entire driver's side of the bed has to be replaced.

Message: $6000, some bandit bodyshop is gonna make out pretty well, try these figures (I'm in the used dakota part business) Southern rust free complete box, including tail lights, and gate. $700.00 (thats what I sell em for, not what you can get em for, if you look) or a used power drivers door $75.00 used front fender $45.00 go that rout = no BONDO either. front end parts spindle and upper and lower control arms, (which I highly doubt it needs any) complete with a caliper and a good used cv shaft $250.00 , new tire $100.00 and paint, big deal...

Message: It doesn't surprise me what this autoshop is charging. Nationwide Insurance (my co.) has "Blue Ribbon" repair shops where they guarantee the work. So the shop probably charges a premium since they have to meet high quality standards. I dunno. I just get my truck back.
