I was going to do this on my 1999 4.7 jeep until I read the service procedure. I assume the 4.7 dodge is the same as the 4.7 jeep. The procedure seems like overkill to me but here is what it suggested. I may have the dealer do it.

Drain entire system...
1) Do not remove radiator cap first!
2) Attach one end of a hose to the draincock and open to drain radiator. This will empty the coolant overflow tank. When the overflow tank is empty, remove radiator cap and continue draining. Drain the engine of coolant by removing the cylinder block drain plugs located on the sides of the cylinder block above the oil pan rail.

Refilling cooling system...
1) Tighten the radiator draincock and cylinder block drain plugs.
2) Remove the pipe plug labeled COOLANT BLEED.
3) Fill the system with 50/50 mixture of ethylene-glycol antifreeze and LOW mineral content water. Fill radiator until coolant starts to come out of coolant bleed bore then install plug.
4) Fill coolant reservoir to FULL mark.
5) Install radiator cap and reservoir cap.
6) Start engine and run at 3000 RPM for 10 seconds.
7) Shut engine off
8) Remove radiator cap and bleed plug.
9) Repeat step 3.
10) Apply Mopar Thread Sealant to the bleed plug and install.
11) Install radiator cap.

sounds like the way mitchell and dodge/ or vice-versa, wants you to do it. the part about the water is distilled water and i doubt the dealer is following said guide lines. if you go to the dealer, mark the block drain plugs and recheck when you get it back from them. keep'em honest......i also use jb brothers stop rust and water pump lube. seems like to me their other products work good (on the cars that pass thru the shop i've seen things you wouldn't beleive). of course the above info is IMO. let us know what the dealer hits you for, if you don't mind

Do 4.7's have cylinder drain plugs? What do they
look like? I thought that was a 4.0 thing only.
Thanks.
