Subject: New truck-brake noise IP: Logged
Message: Hi, all. I've had my new QC for less than a week, and my front brakes make a quick grinding noise every time I come to a stop, and right as I let off the brake pedal to take off again. As much rush hour driving as I do, this will drive me crazy. Any body else with this problem, and if so, did the dealer fix it? Thanks.

Message: Clevite 77,
When you say "very normal," do you mean it's a common problem with this truck, or you don't think it's a problem at all and I shouldn't even try to get it fixed? I've never had a vehicle do this before, especially when new. Thanks.

Message: As much as I hate to say it, it is a common thing. Most Dakota & Durango owners have complained about the front disc brakes on their rigs (and the fact that we still have rear drums). Complaints range from any number of noises made by the brakes to glazed pads & rotors to warped rotors.
Most people within the various forum communities have gotten tired of dealing with Dodge dealerships, and went to after-market parts to solve their problems.
My suggestion would be to stick it out a little bit and see if the noise doesn't subside...you are still putting in break-in mileage after all. If within the next week or so, the brakes don't quiet down, take it into the dealership & make a formal complaint.
Good luck!! 8^)

Message: Thanks for the advise. Our other vehicle is a '99 Durango, and it does it somewhat, mainly from one side, but nothing like this. I'll let the pads break in and then complain.

Message: My 2002 R/T has 500 miles on it and I get odd
grabbing of the rear... oh well... .
If you decide to get aftermarket pads, I
suggest Raybestos PG series pads. I've
never has problems with them.
